Despite being an old hotel,I find it was very clean and pleasant and the location is great!!
The location was the best part
Most of the time there was a lack of staff at the front desk. The public bathrooms situated on the 3rd floor outside guest bedrooms that had video cameras facing toward them. Wasn't a safe feeling.
Ideal situated in the Latin Quarter of Montreal and walking distance to midtown, old-town and waterfront. Small rooms but adequate with a simple breakfast given on a tray to take to your room or to a narrow deck. Staff was very accommodating.
At first site it did not look like my kind of place but I became used to it. Had to drag my case up to 3rd floor, no lifts, but preferred that room facing the back than 2nd floor facing the lively street. Carpets need some TLC, then again, I did not spend much time in the hotel.
The hotel was in a really fun area the town was always alive. The subway was right down the street and old Montreal was in walking distance as well.
That they shut the wifi off at night that's prime time someone needing it to plan the next day.the temperature in the room was fine during the day but at night it was almost intolerable. The room would get so hot and stuffy you wouldn't be able to breath.
Location, price, clean sheets and towels, pretty quiet.
Bathroom was humid and smelly, toilet seat broken.
I stayed here in early Aug 2014. At first the room I was given was not satisfactory (on the first floor). I kept hearing noises through the walls that didn't allow me to sleep, and the wi-fi was spotty as well. I advised the staff about this and was switched to a better room on the 2nd floor the very next morning. The newer room was clean, wifi was better, it had a nice view. I appreciate the service. Of course the hotel was in a good location, close to many stores, restaurants, St. Catherines Street etc. Overall, I would say my experience was good.
No A/C, or tv remote.
we loved the 360 degrees of wooden decor, very vintage french chalet, and quirky features throughout the hotel. Leaning, crooked stairs to the third floor included. If you're looking for memorable and character, this is the right thotel for you.
However, we'll never know if the location actually had air conditioning on the premises. AC was a major reason we booked the hotel, and key during the hot summer season. We got the runaround the entire 3 nights stay. The front desk would allegedly "turn on" the cooling system when we were in the room, and only intermittently because it would somehow negatively impact the room next to us (whaaaat?!). We would promise the concierge to be back by 3, get in at 6 and have 'just missed it'. Like a Montreal yetti, no evidence of cooling ever could be found.
The location on the part of St. Denis where all the action is was awesome!
The room was very hot even though the weather was fairly mild. The thermostat didn't even have working parts and the windows could not be opened.
Staff friendly Location was awesome. Rue St. Denis is a very happening street. Room was clean with comfortable beds. It had an old-world feel to it - i.e. not your typical chain hotel.
Since it's small, one could sometimes hear people speaking out in the hallway.
Took the cheapest most basic room. It was clean, had a comfortable bed, clean towels,a fridge, and air conditioning.Location could not have been any better. Very nice staff especially the morning guy. The continental breakfast was welcome too. Would stay there again.
could use a minor face lift.
Location near everything to walk to Nice staff Lots of restaurants nearby
Had to go outside the front for wifi Lots of homeless and people on drugs in the area Air con not cold enough as on a regulated temp controlled by staff and had a very uncomfortable night
Location is great, right in the heart of the Rue St Denis with many bars, restaurants and cafés.
No elevator, staff did not offer to help me to get my luggage to the 3rd floor until they saw me struggling with it halfway up into the stairs. The room had a weird smell as if someone had been smoking in it. Internet did not work on my floor and I had to go downstairs to the reception to have a connection.
Very nice hotel still chalet in downtown center location, whit very nice staff
No have pool,
Very friendly staff Location walkable to everything
Wifi did not work in room Air conditioning was not strong enough and was baking hot
The location was the main good thing about this hotel.
2 of the front desk people were nice and helpful but unfortunately the manager made the stay unpleasant and was not helpful at all and it upset me that he did not move at all to help us with the air conditioning issue and no phone line in our room. The other staff member 12 hours later after we already had a headache from the heat in our room finally did something about it after telling the manager twice who did NOTHING but then telling this other staff member 12 hours again who came to our rescue. I appreciate the person's effort to help us but due to the bad manager's attitude making my day unpleasant, I would not stay here again despite its great location nor would I recommend it to anyone.
accessible to restos and the metro. friendly staff.
the a/c is not cool enough. its much colder in the lobby than in our room.
This is not a fancy place, it needs updating (new carpets & beds) but everything worked fine. Location is great, walking distance to restaurants, cafes, pubs & Metro. Morning desk guy very friendly and helpful.
Decor from 1970's. No wifi.
alright hotel if money is an issue.
the place we slept in was pretty disgusting. our bed sheet had pee stains (it was probably washed... I assumed it was a permanent stain) which really grossed me out.
Morning staff member was great...friendly and gave good advice on directions to attractions. Evening staff member (older man) was not so friendly and could be better. Location near railway station was best! Overall, place was good value.
Front stairs leading to reception from the street and the internal stairs were very steep and difficult to negotiate with heavy suitcases. (There are no elevators.) Hot water tap in shower difficult to control to get proper temperature.
Good location reasonably friendly reception
It is impossible to open windows in some rooms. When A/C doesn't work it's quite hot inside. Water from hotel A/C has been leaking heavily from the ceiling all over the floor and later into bed too. They also charged us the full price in the beginng, although they likely knew there is a problem with leaking water. After 2 days we finally moved to another room where it was better - no smelly wet floor there.
The fellow at the front desk was very nice and helpful. The location is of course great and the room was large with two beds. There was a mini fridge in our room which was nice and the bathroom had a cool skylight. The window had a nice view of St. Denis but we were never disturbed by the street noise.
The place didn't seem very clean (there were pieces of tissue on one of the beds for some reason). The shower really needed to be replaced as it is cracked and yellowing...creepy! The bed was pretty uncomfortable with wafer-thin pillows and the towels were rough and threadbare. I could never connect to the wifi on our floor (3rd floor) but could connect at the front desk. We were only there for one night so none of this really bothered me. It was just nice to have a place to crash after an 8 hour drive!
Location. In Latin quarter for good food. Close to Metro train and city. Day time desk man very helpful.
Average breakfast, small room and tiny paper thin towels for shower.
