눉The hotel is located on a noisy street corner, and we were approached by street people asking for money - however, there does seem to be a large presence of homeless individuals in the downtown area - just like in most cities.
We were able to drown out the street noise when sleeping, by just keeping the fan on in the room.
We made sure we walked on well lit routes with many people around.
The hotel did not have anywhere to pull up to drop off people/luggage, and the hotel does not have a parking lot. There are a few public parking lots located about a block away (we parked in the public lot located beside the Ramada Hotel on Jarvis St. and it cost $26 for 24 hours). The lot was open and not secured, however, we did feel comfortable leaving our car parked there.
눇Good location, as we were attending concerts at Massey Hall as well as Roy Thompson Hall and we were able to walk to both locations from the hotel. The hotel is also within a short walk to the Ryerson U campus, as well as Young St. and the Eaton Centre. The hotel is located across the street from one of the Ryerson University residences. There is a corner store across the street.
The man working at the front desk was very friendly and offered us alternative rooms for the same price when the room we had booked with two double beds was not available, due to overbooking at the hotel.
The king size bed was comfortable. The bathroom appeared to have been recently renovated. There was a fridge in the room. If you have a choice, you may want to ask for an upper story room that does not face the road (may be quieter). We liked that a basic breakfast was included in the price (juice, coffee, cereal, toast/bread/bagels, jam).
The room was basically cleaned, however, the carpet did appear worn, and the radiator was very dusty. No evidence of cockroaches or bed bugs.
We found the hotel was very easy to drive to - located just off the DVP, Richmond St. exit, and then leaving the hotel, we just had to drive East along Dundas St, and the DVP was just a left turn off of Dundas.
We felt that the hotel was an excellent value for the price we paid, and we would certainly book it again if we were attending concerts at Massey Hall or for shopping at The Eaton Centre. However, if one prefers more upscale accommodations and facilities, this hotel may not be an appropriate choice (note: The Grand Hotel, as well as the Ramada, are both about a block away - however, I am sure the price is double or triple!).
