Embassy West Hotel  

I can honestly say this is one of the best facilities I have ever stayed at in Ottawa or elsewhere (and certainly for the price it was more than I had expected). The room was immaculate. The front desk and housekeeping staff were friendly yet unassuming. The room was bright, had cable and wi-fi, had a mini-fridge and microwave, and had wood/laminate flooring (which is a lot cleaner than carpet in general). The hotel is being converted (at 50% right now) into a retirement residence - so at first I thought I would feel like I was infringing in someone's home but the residents did not seem to mind the comings and goings of the hotel guests. The hotel is right off the highway and close enough to everything. I wish them well in completely converting this facility, but I do hope that I have the pleasure of staying there again next time I'm in Ottawa.

There was no mention on the website or during my booking that this was also a senior living residence. I felt like I had moved in to an old age home when there are emergency buttons next to my bed, and a chair in my shower! It made me very uncomfortable and it's definately something I would have like to have known about before I made a reservation! The staff was not helpful at all. The ONE person you had at the reception desk was not helpful and looked like he'd rather be somewhere else. An automated system would have been better than dealing with him.

The booking didnt say that this was being converted to a senior citizens home, so the bar/restaurant closed late, was always full of the senior citizens. There was still construction going on, sometmes heard loud sounds at around 7:30 am.

Did not like the fact at all that it is being turned into a "senior living" residence and there is no mention of this. It is not really a hotel at all; there are just a few rooms left as hotel rms. No staff at front desk when we arrived; no sign on outside to say it was hotel, just the "senior living" sign. Did not think we were in right place even tho' gps said so; with no fr.desk staff, it did not help. Had to call from car to get service at fr. Desk. Everywhere one looked, there was evidence of senior living: signs for physio classes, outing notices, doctor's office,nurse onduty. This is a complete misrepresentation to label this accomodationas a hotel. Very Poor. (Sorry - didn't see section below - am not rewriting this)

Very quiet and comfortable. It is being changed over to a retirement facility so it is very quiet at night. Great for getting a good night sleep.

No restaurant for quests, the dinning room is for the retirement people only.

It is being converted to a seniors residence so there were few amenities.

It's being turned into a senior's residence. My room was like I was living in one, with all the features that go with it. Walls were also really thin and I could hear everything that was going on in the hallway. Not what I was expecting when reading the reviews or the hotel features. Would not stay there again.

The hotel is currently being converted into a senior residence. There is not outside sign that shows that it is an hotel. My room also add a very noizy refrigerator. Not much restaurants in the area.

I loved that the floors were hard wood instead of carpet. It was also very nice to have a kitchenette in the room, along with a fridge and microwave. The flat screen TV and the room in general was very up to date and modern.

Some of the more cheaper and outdated hotels offer complimentary items, such as toothpaste and toothbrushes, if you forget to bring your own. Its too bad you do not offer that service.

I was surprised to find that the hotel is also a senior citizens' residence, and perhaps that is what it is being made into -- ? Given this, the elevator service was quite inadequate, though I believe they are working on this.
