We felt very comfortable enjoying tea and reading in the lounge while we waited out a terrible rainstorm and high winds. It was the perfect place to relax midway through our three week drive. Penny and Ian were wonderful hosts!
There was nothing we did not like about out two night stay.
Their top room, The Russian Room, seems exceptional. The others don't measure up as well. Very helpful, cheerful and interesting proprietors. Lovely grounds. Wonderful English breakfast. Nice bed linens. Restful atmosphere.
Low toilet, high bed!! Room decorated to a point there was hardly room for our belongings except on a chair.
The mattress was the best I have ever slept on. The rooms were beautiful
Poor wifi reception and because I am a runner, there was no place to run except for the main road.
Too much shade, very dark in cabin.
We stayed in the Conservatory Room which overlooks the gardens and the pond beyond. Charming, large room with a very comfortable bed, sitting area, gas fireplace, and French Door leading out to a small deck. The bathroom was nicely appointed with a huge soaking tub also overlooking the gardens. Lots of personal touches, which we loved. After a long day of hiking and exploring the Cabot Trail, Ian greeted us warmly upon our arrival (and despite being quite a bit earlier than we expected.) The owners, Ian and Penny, like to have an idea of your arrival time, so they are there to greet you. The next morning, we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage, blueberry cake, fruit, yogurt and yummy homemade granola.
Friendly owner view room
Dinner and breakfast are first rate. Excellent hosts.
Bathtub a bit awkward.
First class accommodation, views, and breakfast. Friendly and informative hosts. A gem.
Privacy, beautiful surroundings, good. Location - close to points of interest, excellent breakfasts, extremely helpful hosts, plenty of opportunity to explore Cape Breton Island.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
We liked the location to start our Cabot Trail travels. Ian was a warm, friendly host. Breakfast was delicious!
The house smelled a bit musty and the handshower a little awkward to use.
Very nice experience.
Very accommodating, they have a last checkin at 7pm, we were traveling south on the cabot trail and due to arrive just before 7. There was an accident on the road which delayed us about 1/2 hour, and once past that, there was 2 separate construction areas that delayed us even further. Ian was very pleasant to deal and assured us that even if we were late, we would be helped, and we were! The breakfast in the morning was eggs Benny, which I was told they don't do to often, but it was very very yummy and filling.
I can't really say that I disliked anything about our stay here. There was a wifi issue that they were in the midst of, but that didn't bother my wife or me. The wifi worked perfectly well in the main building, just not in the cottage which is where we were, but again, wasn't an issue for us.
Hosts were very kind, rooms nicely decorated and very spacious. Location is perfect right on the Cabot Trail.
Loved the stuffed french toast for breakfast. It was different but super delicious.
There was no wifi when we stayed there and my cell had no service so unfortunately that meant we were completely cut off.
the Russian room-the view of the lake- the grounds and building or really nice
the comforter was way to heavy for the summer humidity- I had trouble sleeping.
The room was beautiful and comfortable. The food was very good. Penny and Ian were wonderful hosts.
Nothing. Would like a view from the rose cottage. Trees could be removed to have a view of the pond.
There wasn't one thing we didn't like. The entire place swelled with charm. The rooms were well decorated and comfortable. The breakfasts were second to none and the hosts were extremely delightful and offered any help when they could. We would definitely go back again. Only one word describes this BnB: classy.
Lovely atmosphere and delilghtful hosts. The setting was magnificent and food exceptional.
What a beautiful spot, so peaceful and relaxing! Since we were traveling by bicycle our host gave us a ride to a near-by restaurant for our evening meal. Breakfast was wonderful! The entire experience was a delight and made us feel 'royal'!
Large room, superb decor, genial host/hostess, fantastic fine evening dining (optional), beautiful setting overlooking a yard and pond, great breakfast choices.
They should have been more clear on their website that they DON'T accept kids, I reviewed it again and looks like fine print to me, place is very clean though
Quality of furnishings Delightful gardens
The Russian room is wonderful
Peaceful location and spoiled by a very helpful host. Attentive and full of good and helpful advice.
I would have preferred a shower rather than a bath.
We stayed in the cottage and it was just delightful. Beautifully furnished, our own veranda, a quiet escape. We felt we were at our own cottage with a nearby home that provided yummy breakfasts!
A bit dark but that comes naturally with a wood cabin experience. Not much of a criticism really.
