Garden City is a house/hotel in a residential neighbourhood. It caters largely to the Chinese community. It has been updated in some ways with laminate flooring etc. The kitchen dining area is big and clean with a large fridge and bits and pieces of equipment for the use of guests. For someone like myself who was only there for two nights it worked very well. I found the other guests friendly and once I got used to how things worked and where things were, I stayed focussed on the fact that it was good value for a place to sleep with a kitchen in the Vancouver area.

I found it very challenging to find this address even with google maps. Potential guests should note the destinction between avenue street and place when googling. I am unfamiliar with this type of accomodation and had to call the contact gal Lisa to talk about getting a towel (other guests had brought their own). There were towels available but you had to know where the linen closet was in order to access them. The bathroom was my biggest challenge. Shared between three of the rooms, it is old and while it was not dirty it is badly in need of updating which kind of makes a person feel that the whole thing is a little grubby. (I have nothing against green fixtures) The larger of the beds (my room had a queen and a single) was very very firm almost like sleeping on a board. I realize that many people prefer that kind of bed but my back didn't like it much. The photo shows a desk in the room, but I found it difficult to use as the beds pretty much fill it up. There was also no lamp which was a problem for me and I could not find a working lamp anywhere in the house.

Good location for the concert we attended.

Bare room - only two bath towels provided, no face clothes or hand towels. Bed had only a bottom sheet and a duvet, no top sheet or other lighter covering and room was very warm. No air conditioning or fan and only one small window not close to bed. Bathroom had dirty floor and dirty sink. Bath had no floor mat or skid proof mat in the tub. Common bathroom was right beside our bedroom which meant we were woken up each time it was used.
