Doris and Norbert were wonderful. The place is magical. Great space on a mountain side. Wonderful room huge bedroom and bath. They couldn't do enough for us.
Very helpful, friendly owners who made our stay very enjoyable. Beautiful area with great views. Excellent value for money.
No complaints at all!
NICE STAY /FRIENDLY PEOPLE FANTASTCI ENVIRONEMENT
The cabin was a good size and had everything we needed. The beds in our cabin were wonderfully comfortable. The best sleep I've had in ages, in fact. Doris was a lovely and warm host. On our first full night she made us a fresh and delicious home cooked meal that we had asked for earlier in the day. The portion size was very generous and tasted devine. Breakfast was superb as well. I particularly loved Doris's homemade sausages. Walking into the main lodge for dinner felt as though we were going to a family dinner, with Doris busy in the kitchen but still stopping to welcome us, and the wonderful aromas coming from her kitchen. We had a nice chat with her husband before dinner about the lodge. The decor is very interesting and he shared a bit of the history. We would not hesitate to recommend Glenogle Mountain Lodge for excellent and quite location, excellent food and wonderfuls hosts.
Beautiful lodge and nestled outside of golden in the mountains. The staff take care of you like family, very clean rooms. Very good breakfast.
One thing that we were uncomfortable with here... We decided to go back into golden for supper and we asked the staff about locking our room that had our luggage inside but they said "oh there is no need to lock it, we treat everybody like family here". Still that made us uncomfortable knowing that the room wasn't locked when we left. But you can lock it from the inside while you sleep.
Doris and Norbert were delightful and catered for our every need. The meals prepared by Doris were healthy and delicious. Norbert's sense of humour was superb!
Having to leave!
I booked here because I'd read previous reviews of the homemade breakfast. Even if you only stay here for the breakfast, do it! Our chalet was great. I was travelling with my sister, three of her children and my son. Two bedrooms gave us lots of room. But really the food was unreal! The owners are from Germany and make everything from scratch. When we had eaten our full (my 7year old nephew had 5 oatmeal pancakes!), she wrapped up the remaining pancakes and sausage to send on the road for us...then threw in some extras to be sure there would be enough. The hospitality was amazing. If I'm ever back in the area I will make a point of staying at Glenogle!
The only thing that may have been upsetting was that the hot tub wasn't working. Apparently they don't have it operating during the summer season. It actually didn't affect us as the older kids walked down to the river while we just enjoyed the natural beauty of the area. Being a little out of town may be an issue for some people but it's an easy drive of about 10 minutes and didn't bother us
Breakfast was excellent
No room keys so you had to leave your room unlocked No TV in our room
The location is scenic, quiet and restful. The owners, Doris and Norbert are friendly, accomodating and kind. They made us feel very welcome and cared for. I have recommended Glenogle to friends and family
We liked everything.
The location of this hotel is second to none. The view is what you would expect in the rockies, incredible, incredible, but.....
In all fairness, I should have done more research before I booked this room, perhaps I had other expectations. We checked in at 3:30pm, and we were immediately told to remove our shoes (no shoes upstairs). There was a tv in our room, but was told that there is no cable; we could look through there dvd library if we want watch a movie. Once upstairs we tried to log on to Wi-fi and it was not working either. The real kicker for me was that at 9:00pm I went downstairs to see if I could get a cup of tea. I asked for tea and was to "NO" (really!), they were too busy to make tea for me. I don't think I am too picky, but for $200.00 a night I don't think tea or cable is too much to ask for.
Doris and her husband were warm and very welcoming.
Our meal took 2 hours and it was clear that they need to hire a cook/chef as they were a little out of their league in preparing mains. The salad and dessert were amazing though! Also, there is a silly list if rules inside the cabins that goes into extraordinary detail-including "no intimacy" which sort of blew my mind in such an isolated and romantic location.
The owners are what make this place great. Friendly, engaging, and Doris is a fabulous cook!
Made the reservation to stay at Glenogle Lodge through booking.com for 2 nights....was supposed to check in on the Friday and ended up working late that day, so because of this my wife had called the lodge at 2pm the day of to let them know we would be late and wasn't sure exactly how late, the response from the manager was "you people always do this to me."....my wife was very disheartened especially after calling them out of courtesy. That was the first issue. The second;..we arrived eventually at 3am saturday morning and went straight to bed...on our way up the driveway to the lodge we were shocked at the state of the place....tall grass..lots of weeds...it seemed that there was minimal upkeep, but of course this didn't matter after a 5.5hr drive and getting there so late. I awoke the next morning to at around 9:30am and told my wife I would go down to the lodge reception to see about breakfast, which I did. I walked into the main lodge and noticed they had a very large dining area, I then met the manager. I said hello and that I was wondering what time breakfast was served till. She very rudely said "what do you think you can just walk in here and demand breakfast? If you want breakfast you should have told me yesterday evening." I explained that we didn't arrive until late the previous night but that didn't matter seeing as how I had no idea I had to announce that we would like to eat in the morning. I then asked what time they would start to serve lunch...her response again was very rudely "we don't serve lunch here." I was astounded. I then asked if I could get a cup of coffee seeing as how there wasn't any in the room. She directed a man to go get me a cup of coffee. When he returned he had an urn that was half filled with coffee. I poured it into a cup finding that the coffee was cold. Im assuming it was because it was previously served to people earlier that morning for breakfast.
The bed was comfy
We arrived at this hotel under the impression it had soa facilities but none were offered. We were asked to take our shoes off as we walked in which we have never been asked before in ant hotel we have ever stayed in. We were a party of five so my husband had to take his shoes on and off when unloading the car. I was under the impression that ot was a suite with two bedrooms and then a room with a bed setee but the suite had two rooms in total.
Poor wifi signal to our room.
The cleanliness and quality of room.
Facilities of hotel were lacking and spa in title is slightly misleading.
Clean rooms, Location, bathrooms
No heat in room, wifi turned off at night, no room keys available, bad health and food safety practices( scooped ice with bare hands), so called games room all closed off, no hot tub during summer? ..lights turned off( lobby pitch black at 8 oclock no sign of staff) , papers and brochures strewn everywhere in lobby...Doris the host wearing fitlhy old cooks shirt....totally amateur. Beat up run down place maybe seen better days...for sale is a sign of that perhaps
The owners are amazingly friendly ! Very comfortable, cosy, nice place in the middle of nature.
Room is clean.
The ads said it has its own kitchen, it is only for cabin but not for regular room. You do not even get coffee unless you pay for the meal. Gym is nightmare, no light, you have to ask for everything ( in the corner of the downstairs floor). Every time you use anything, they give you a long face. The internet is so slow especially it is in evening hour (everyone use it). I can not even play social game, my son can not play you tube neither.
The German couple that owns and operates this property pour their hearts and souls into it. Through their own blood, sweat and tears they've created an experience like no other - a true, European-style bed and breakfast, nestled in the beautiful mountainside just north of Golden. Tip: get the breakfast. It's extra but totally worth it. You must stay here if you're anywhere close to the area.
Comfortable, excellent food, relaxing
stressful reception, hot tub didn't work
The owners of this lodge are great. Made us feel so welcome and at home. Doris's homemade pancakes are amazing! She is a wonderful Chef. Norbert and Doris are ultimate hosts!
Nice to be a bit up the mountain out of town.
Unwelcoming, no amenities in room, overpriced
Very welcoming hosts and excellent food. Bed was comfortable and the view was great.
No tv in the room. Not that I would have watched much tv given the location and scenery, it's just nice to turn on the tube for a few minutes before bed
Doris is an amazing cook so if she asks if you'd like breakfast or supper choose that option and your taste buds will agree
