The wifi and hostel setting
The heaters within my room wasnt felt at all..the room was always very cold.
staff member was able to adjust my booking at check in to allow me to stay the 2 nights, and when asked were able to accomodate my request for a bottom bunk.
only had me booked in for 1 night instead of 2 as shown on my booking.com confirmation
staff were frendly close to the resturant bar
Loved this hostel. The staff were friendly and the travellers passing through were great.
The only downfall was my bed, mattress seemed a bit old and worn but other than that - 5/5!
location was good it was in downtown and close to water front, farmer's market and super store. friendly staffs
there was no washroom on main floor female dorm was on semi-basement floor so it was still dark in the morning
The location can't be beat, close to all the major sights and things to do in Halifax. There is a big communal kitchen, everything is well organized, very friendly staff. It was warm in the male dorm room where I was staying but still ok (I stayed there in early August). Beds are ok but nothing special. Bathrooms were clean.
Lockers require your own padlock (or you can buy one) Parking on the street is a little tricky around (paid parking).
The friendly staff and the fun yet responsible environment
The kitchen closing at night
staff, location, cleanliness, kitchen, patio... everything's really cool in there
Forgot my 'map' of the hostel and went 2 floors down to find the toilets, bigger signs in the corridor could be cool. I know it might not always be the case but it was really warm at night, even with a fully opened window.
No Ac, was not possible to open the window completely, room was so hot, nearly no air circulation, could not sleep due to this, fix this, and matrace was thin and small Saw a mouse in the kitchen!
I arrived on an early flight and was able to store my luggage while I explored Halifax until check-in. For a busy hostel in July, it was quieter than I expected. Everyone was friendly and the wi-fi reception was excellent!
Kitchen facilities were very good, as was the dining area. A nice bit out the back with benches too. The staff were very helpful. Wifi access very good throughout. Good central location.
Room wasn't exactly spacious and the lockers are only for valuables not entire backpack.
Location was great being so close to the Via rail terminal, and also for walking to the water front and main attractions. Good friendly hostel for meeting people.
The room I was in (118) had its window backing on to where people smoked outside which, when the window was open, wasn't great for me as a non smoker. Kitchen layout is a bit cumbersome - not well thought out but not a major issue. Could do with self locking doors - security wasn't an issue but you had to physically lock the dorm room door, and I am not sure everyone in the room realised this.
For a solo traveler, the price is right.
Shared quarters are not what I have always dreamed about
basket system for storing food in communal fridge, location was ideal for my plans, was able to store my bags temporarily after check out so I didn't have to carry them with me, free local/toll free telephones in lobby
lack of parking, mattress was thin so I could feel the slats beneath,
The staff was very helpful at all times.TV and reading room excellent. The provision of reasonably priced parking space was a huge bonus.
I was expecting to arrive after midnight for my first night (I actually arrived at 2.40am), so my booking had been processed through the 'late arrival protocol'. This was done over the phone with hostel staff. Even though my card was charged successfully there and then, a few minutes later I was asked via email to email my credit card details for the hostel's records. This I found 'bad business', as it is inherently insecure for a number of reasons I could even begin to list here. I was in a highway cafeteria with free wifi, and I still had a 350km drive to Halifax. This request made me feel uncertain about my booking status and whether or not I had secured a place to sleep, considering that I was driving in a blizzard for 13hrs total, in a small car. Not nice.
Great experience for a first time hostel visitor.
Nothing bad to mention.
Good place to stay in Halifax, situated in the city centre, close to the train station. The house is very nice... Rooms and bathrooms are clean. Very good staff too !
Great location- 5 minute walk from train station, 10 minute walk to the harbour. Bathrooms were very clean.
Bunk beds were a little outdated- matress was flat and hard, ladder to climb onto the top bunk is just the wooden panels at the end of the bed.
