- Getting a suite I did not have my credit card with me. When this happened in the past, a deposit was taken on my debit card. This place demanded cash. The deposit was less than has been asked of me in the past. The atm machine was not working. This was 1am. I had to go the bank "just around the corner". For some reason they "were unable to refund to a debit card". When I checked out, I noticed they had a goodly number of these deposits simply sitting in a drawer clipped to receipts. I was looking forward to staying at the Holiday Inn Express as I have had good experiences in Kingston and Ottawa. Checkout time was 11am. At around 10:35 the fire alarm went off. It went on and off at intervals for the next 20 minutes. No announcements were made; no fire trucks arrived; the elevators continued to function. The television was of poor quality. The picture was fuzzy.

Good breakfast The fan in the bathroom was very very noisy. Also where the carpet met the ceramic tile the staples that held the carpet in place were protruding through the carpet. Somebody will get a nasty cut for sure. Last the tub does not have an anti-skid mat. All of these concerns were brought to the attention of the desk clerk but I had the feeling nothing was going to be acted on.

The fact it's a smaller sized hotel made for very personal exchanges with staff and other visitors. The included breakfast was well received and excellent. The second day room cleaning was done a bit quickly where the beds had not been made just flipped over.

Friendly service by all staff we encountered. It would be preferable to have a kettle for both tea and coffee making facilities in the room, rather than just coffee. This would have been desireable for us in the evening.

Upgraded design,modern amneties,comfotable beds The service at the front desk was poor. The attendants were not well informed and could not answer alot of our questions on the payment of the bills etc.... No one in our group was charged the same price???
