Proximity to shopping, walking path, ski hill
Noise level, was put in a room over the bar and between the bright light coming in from the street lights and the noise from band and people outstide yelling, smoking under my window it really was not a good, relaxing night as it should have been for such a lovely hotel
This place has ton's of history and charm. Mike's Pub is quite lively and fun to do some people watching.Close to everything downtown.
The rooms have no coffee makers. Free parking consists of approx 7-8 spaces in a very tight area. There were no movie channels and quite honestly have no idea if there was WI-FI as the guest service people don't tell you.
The staff were excellent; friendly and very helpful.
Our fourth floor room was noisy. We could hear voices and coughs in adjoining rooms and in the hallway. In the evening bass from the pub below would reverberate. On the weekends I am told the nightclub is a problem for other rooms but we only heard the pub. We found it hard to sleep at night and in the mornings.
The rooms were very nice and the staff was exceptional. Everyone from the front desk staff to the cleaning staff were very friendly. They were welcoming to us and to our little dog. The location was very good for walking about town. The complementary breakfast in their restaurant was exceptional -- the best I have ever had in many years of travel.
The room ventilation was poor. We had to open the windows and turn on the bathroom fan so we could sleep -- otherwise it was very hot and stuffy. The elevator was small and quaint so it was good that it was not in high demand.
Front desk lady was rude. Didn't tell us when check out was Or breakfast or the no visitor rule.
I liked the fact that the gig I traveled so far to see was in the hotel.
The stairs were for emergency only as they were under construction. (I understand the necessity).
The ease of check in very welcoming staff. Comfortable bed. Great view, close to everything! Rustic elevator!
Pillows were too thick.
Love the history, including the hauntings. Wonderful old building. Had the best meal ever in the restaurant including a jazz duo to add to the ambience.
Being on the second floor we heard the pub music pounding until it closed. The old rads sounded like someone was banging on them with a wrench. The ear plugs on the night stand should have prepared us. Even after all this i would definitely come back. Curious to see how the renovations turned out.
The hotel is extremely well-located one block from downtown Nelson. It is a wonderful old "classic" hotel, but many of its rooms have been renovated to a modern standard. The dining rooms, bar and pub are all very good establishments. Great value for money!
The contractors that are doing the renovation are worth hiring. The workmanship was good. The hotel staff were pleasant enough.
I didn't like finding out, when I got there that the room they had for me was the one above the bar and I was told that it would be noisy. The only escape in event of a fire was to crash the barricade in the stairway that was there because of renovation construction. There is almost no parking lot. I got one of half a dozen spaces. The elevator is the original one. I'd guess the building is 80 years old. I was bumped to a higher priced room to get away from the noise, another 20.00 a night. New tho it was, it was also about the size of the bed and I paid the same rate I would have paid at half a dozen other places for a decent room. The morning I checked out, I was at the desk after a couple with two dogs checked out and had to scrape something off my shoe. You can guess. Never again!!
Every single staff member was warm, friendly, fun and cared about your experiance. Great location in the center of town with four resturants and a great pub. Room came with a order from menu very good breakfast. All in all it was on of the best places I have stayed.
Lovely old building beautifully updated. Great food, good service. Mike's Sportsbar is fun place to hang out. Great location.
The walls are thin and could use more soundproofing. A hot tub would be nice.
The whole atmosphere and friendly staff.
Available parking spaces at hotel.
The setting, the building and the people were great. The best was the City of Nelson and this Hotel was in easy walking to everything.
no air conditions but we did not need it on this trip.
The Hume has a wonderful old-time charm to it, with great history and style. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Even though renovations were being done on the second floor, we had no disruptions to our stay. There's only one elevator, but we never had to wait long for it!
Our room had 2 queen beds crammed into it. It would have been a better fit with a queen, and a convertible sofa-bed.
Location, historical ambience
Proximity to city centre. Excellent housekeeping for rooms.
Lack of fitness and recreation facilities. Limited availability of parking.
Loved the traditional décor & decorations. The complimentary breakfasts were great. The location was ideal near the center of shopping & historical features of Nelson.
The room was a wee bit crowded with furniture. The elevator seemed a little suspect. We did hear a little bit of the pub noise even on the 4th floor.
The hotel is cute and historic, and had really good pillows! Rooms are also very spacious.
The more affordable rooms are directly above or close to their hoppin' bars. So if you are there for a long and restful sleep, bring earplugs or pay the extra $ for a quieter room
Character of the old hotel still intact. Very nice bar (library).
The noise from the pub was a little over the top. Perhaps more concentration on insulation during the ongoing restoration is in order.
An oldly worldly charm in the center of town makes the Hume a good choice. We stayed in newly renovated rooms which were very comfortable.
Pub in the hotel is noisy at night so unless you are a heavy sleeper get top floor rooms with AC.
The location was great, the staff was great and the restaurant/bar were great amenities. I loved the option to decline housekeeping and the $5 gift card was really nice.
The parking lot was unavailable because cranes were coming to install AC in the hotel. The facility is really dated and for the price, seems a little dumpy. The floor, at least on my floor, was buckled, the carpet was old and funky.
Great food, helpful and generous staffs throughout. Comfortable clean room. Overall great ambiance, vintage photos. First class hotel.
Coffee was too weak for my taste.
We liked the charm and character of the hotel.
Parts were under construction, so a little noisy. Would have been nice to have a small fridge in the room.
