Really clean, friendly host, not busy during a cold wintry night, in the center of Montreal.
Difficult to find at night if not knowing the address, on a small street, road in its front under construction, few Montreallor know Jade Blue B&B.
Staff was fantastic: Bettina in particular was amazing and a great cook, and her idea of setting up a massage sub-business at the location should definitely be explored by the owner.
The detached toilet on the main floor suite was a bit inconvenient. Never met the owner, which we thought was odd. Nobody there to greet us on arrival.
Breakfast food was very good. Size of room and connected bathroom were large. Nice balcony.
Location felt unsafe. Bed was uneven (floor not level). Mice in room at night after our food. Breakfast was late on one of the mornings. No on-site parking.
The B&B is quirky but you are serviced by excellent staff and the owner was very helpful in retrieving a lost item. There is the shelter just down the road BUT nobody forces you to go near it, the streets and access to old town and the rest of Montreal are well lit and paved. You will only have issue if YOU decide to walk through a bunch of homeless men carrying your swanky bags. Remember to write your breakfast time on the board.
Our room was very hot and took a while to cool down and sleep, even after we found the thermostat. A fan would have helped.
Great staff, great spa tub, meals home cooked perfectly, bi-lingual staff, charming Victorian decor. I would come back here.
The street is just off Rue Ste Catherine, and the people on the street can be either complementary or looking for money as you try to get in.
Mostly soundproof rooms Breakfast was different everyday Breakfast was fresh and homemade Staff was great, informative and helpful Bedroom was very clean, nicely decorated
Toilet was across the hall The neighbourhood was a little sketchy although the people were relatively nice While we did walk most of where we were going, if you were driving, there is little parking and a lot of traffic early on in the day in the surrounding areas/
The staff were superb and it was a nice quirky little B&B. The medieval style room I stayed in was superb
If you're looking for a cozy spot with a lot of character, super-friendly and helpful staff, and a great location, this is it. Jade Blue is located in between Downtown's shopping district and the Latin Quarter's bars and restaurants, and is just a short walk from scenic Old Town. The rooms are big and comfortable, decorated with a classical French vibe that felt like I was staying with my favorite great aunt. All rooms have private baths, though some are not connected. A hot communal breakfast is served daily by the staff and ranged from crepes to omelettes, with plenty of fruit, juice and coffee. The staff are not always onsite, but the building is accessible with a code. Make sure you call ahead for the number.
During my visit in September 2014, there was construction going on down the street that started early on weekday mornings.
Host was super friendly enthusiastic and helpful with ideas, recommendations, etc... Breakfast was excellent! Rooms look great. Location was great. Not too far from metro or old city.
Had to pay to park our car in a nearby garage. Was 20 can$ a day (not bad for Montreal). Like other reviews mentioned there are some strange types hanging out on the street but they never bothered us once during our stay. Should have planned 3 days instead of 2. So much to see/do.
comfortable and good sleep. Excellent location, close to main amenities, with very lively streets nearbye. Neighbourhood seemed a little dicy, but it ended up to be a very friendly and helpful bunch of neighbors.
Breakfast was not as grand as expected.
In the middle of all attractions in St. Catherin, quite and clean place. Breakfast is great. Staff are excellent so helpful. Jade blue is home in Montreal. Room size is great, no carpets the hotel full of laminated wood.
location was excellent hundred year old house was interesting
staff not helpful on arrival both mornings breakfasts were disorganized-no coffee one morning area a bit sketchy
Close to Old Montreal.
Bettany (the hostess) - If it wasn't for her we likely would have just found somewhere else to stay.
It's just on the other side of a homeless shelter and a meth lab from all the things you want to do in Montreal. There was no close parking (expect an additional ~50cad for a weekend trip). Between the "low price" and parking fee, we could have stayed somewhere much nicer, with parking, a/c, and with fewer shady folks hanging around at all hours. A/C was advertised, but not present. This made sleeping almost impossible in the summer heat (we didn't want to open our windows in that neighborhood). We tried to escape the sweltering conditions by taking a cold bath in the "2 person tub", only to find that, by myself, I couldn't sit upright and stretch out my legs entirely - and I'm only 5'6". To get both of us in the tub at the same time required more creative yoga than I'm used to, and had no comfortable solution. It was about as romantic as naked twister with a spool of barbed wire. Don't expect to get a refund of any kind from the covetous and unscrupulous owner, however, as she will quickly cite her supposed doctorate in international bank laws and immediately threaten to call the police for "fraudulency" (even though she's the one who failed to provide what she advertised). Getting a proper receipt was a whole other adventure, as the total bill for a 2 night weekend stay came to 323CAD (270CAD + taxes + "additional fees"). I still have no clue what the "additional fees" are/were, but I figure 53CAD is worth it to never have to interact with this woman again. Luckily, we spent most of our time out in Montreal, rather than in the room. I suppose I should have taken warning from the fact that the owner doesn't live in the B&B (or even in Canada) and can avoid customer complaints by simply not answering the phone call.
lovely home, very clean and comfortable
location was near many things, but specific street seemed sketchy
Quiet location, nice and cosy guesthouse, lovely host and excellent breakfast.
Breakfast times are limited to 8:30 and 9:30, which may be a bit inconvenient for business. You are asked to call the guesthouse if you arrive in the evening, this is a bit tricky with European phones. If you are lucky another guest lets you in...
- good value - friendly hostess
- neighbourhood has lots of homeless people around - 8am construction noise
The breakfast was great and the room was well kept.
I'm unsure how to rate the location. Proximity to downtown - excellent for the price. If you're looking to be in close proximity to local crack-dens and strippers...You're also in luck! You can stop off as you walk down the street. Once inside you'd never know that just up the street a meth lab is working hard.
Two breakfast times. 8:30 and 9:30. You must sign up for one or the other. Max 6 per seating. Staff did not arrive early enough for 8:30 seating 2 of the 4 days. Door lock very difficult to open. Considerable strength required to unlock door.
Betina, the hostess, is cheerful, helpful, and hardworking. The house is quaint and comfortable. Breakfasts delicious and varied. Location is just a short walk or Metro ride from many of the attractions of Montreal.
Neighborhood is marginal, literally. A soup kitchen on the corner occasionally draws some unsavory people on the street nearby.
Bettina was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Location itself is great for walking to old montreal and city events. The house is fantastic
Parking. Parking is several blocks away. The location is good but the neighborhood is sketchy - there were homeless men standing around because of the shelter up the street . They did not bother us but were disturbing.
Loved the themed rooms! The staff was very friendly and helpful. They had a great homemade breakfast waiting for me in the morning. The location is a nice walk to Old Montreal and the B&B is only one block from the public direct bus to the airport, was very easy to get there and back.
There's a halfway house, about a half a block down where tenants there seem to loiter and smoke outside, in front of it. The last night I stayed it there was a hockey game between Montreal and the Rangers for the playoffs. The street was quite noisy until 2am.
