Location Facilities Service
Lunch menu was poor on healthy food
We had the standard room which did not have a sea view but it was still a lovely room. The Great Room has an amazing view of the bay and is great to eat in. There is a Bistro bar outside which serves great food too. For those who complain about the WIFI you have to understand that this is on the West Coast of the island where the infrastructure is relatively poor.
We were on the third/top floor and even in September the room was quite warm to sleep in at night. There is no air-con which I understand is part of the ecological design of the hotel - which is a good thing.
Location, service and friendly staff.
Facilities were not as good as they should have been. The hot tub wasn't working at all and the sauna not working properly. This is obviously part of what you pay for.
Great beachfront setting - loved having breakfast looking out over the ocean.
Our room was lovely - but rear facing. Definitely worth upgrading to an ocean view.
Location and dining room
Our room was ground level 10 feet from a busy walkway. Absolutely no privacy with people staring into our room. We even had a family eating their supper on our patio.I booked and advised this was our anniversary. Would never risk booking there again and getting one of the mainfloor rooms.
The position of the hotel facing onto the beach- I would highly recommend this hotel but only if you have / can afford a room facing the sea.
The 'standard' room we had was very dark and faced fir trees. But was still expensive. We did enjoy the setting at meal times etc but felt rather disappointed overall.
Long Beach Lodge welcomes you from the very beginning with friendly, helpful staff who want to make your stay wonderful. We only had a standard room but it came with all the amenities. Coffee with real milk not the dry pre- packaged stuff. The bathroom was large with a separate tub and shower. Views of the coast from the main dining/lodge were beautiful. Breakfast was very good in the main dining room. Loved the natural surroundings and overall atmosphere. Very relaxing and romantic. Extremely quiet.
Ocean Front Accomodation
No common area to see the view of the ocean on cold and rainy days...only dining room. No view of ocean from room, only parking lot. Front desk not very friendly.
The location is gorgeous, on Cox Bay beach. Well worth having a room in the lodge facing the beach where you can sit and watch and listen to the ocean. Rooms are comfortable, staff very helpful and friendly.
Food is good, but not spectacular, and a bit pricey. Breakfast is not included in the price, and when I asked if I could take a banana from a fruit bowl on the bar as a snack for the day, it was another $1.25! Even though I had just paid for breakfast.
When we arrived our bookings.com reservation was not found by the staff. They asked us to go to the lounge and have a complimentary drink and appetizer while they search for a room for us, as they were fully booked. After 30 mins they came back and solved the solution, it included a nights stay at a competitor at the rate we would pay at the LBR, and free dinner and room the next night. The Staff were all so helpfully and genuinely wanted to help us. they made us feel comfortable and welcome.
Great access directly to the beach. Good views from the dining room. Food good but not exceptional. Service friendly and positive.
Can't blame the hotel but August is called Fogust locally! Bar closed early, pre 11.00pm.
The location right on the beach. The personnel very kind and efficient. The lovely view from the restaurant. The size both of the room and the bathroom, quite large.
Reduced privacy in the bathroom because of a wooden panel between bathroom and bedroom to permit the view through that panel and the balcony door to the beach. Noisy pluming. We had a room with sea-view which was over the beach bar and had to keep our curtains drawn some part of the day to ensure privacy. The bed moved on one side when the person sleeping on the opposite side moved which made it quite uncomfortable. Overrated prices at the bar and restaurant and in spite of this very small helpings by the glass of cocktails and wines. Just one sort of jam at breakfast. For non-surfers, a swimming pool would have been a wonderful pass- time.
Room layout with fireplace Robes Close to beach and amenities Hotel and cabin/suite options
We found mapping and locator could be improved since lodge is further north than actual long beach public park and beach.
Location Nice view on the beach Clean rooms Nice shower
Price was high Limited options for breakfast Small bed
Great location with a beautiful view. Service was great, room large with nice amenities. Comfortable bed, coffee pot and even your own tea pot with special tea bags in metal boxes to select from. Bathroom had nice bathrooms. Wonderful place to stay.
The hotel seemed a little pricey, but in the long run was probably worth the guarantee that the would be a positive experience.
Location, cox bay , main room, restaurant, sand bar bistro And fabulous fish burrito, atmosphère, surf club, lots of Space on cabins
room in cabins a little bit dark
Right on the beach. Very comfortable bed. Very accommodating for our 18 month old.
Expensive restaraunt with limited options. It's not actually on long beach. Long beach is down the road.
Wonderful location. The cottage was perfect, especially when the weather changed. Excellent cooking facilities. Nothing to complain about, we will be revisiting.
Nothing, it's expensive but in this life you pay for what you get. It was worth it.
The ambiance, the ocean and the food, all excellent
One evening went to main restaurant for dinner and were seated by a window with a lovely view. There was a couple sitting on a couch behind us that complained that they had been waiting for our table and asked why we were seated before them. Immediately the waitress found another window table for them. The waitress spent the next half hour smoozing these guests while totally ignoring us. After 40 minutes we just got up and left, when someone stopped us and asked if everything was okay, I said it was obvious that we were not going to served so we were leaving. We went to our room and ordered room service. Within 10 minutes we had out dinner. Told our story to the room service staff, and minutes later the Manager came to our room and apologized and comped our meal. I believe it was the "new" waitress that ignored us as she was too busy trying to make things right with the other couple. One of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. But room service was excellent.
We had a dreamed holliday with our 5 children in this place! Beatifull beach and exellent food!
Mattress too firm for my taste.
Staff , very helpful and informative.
There weren't enough facilities in the resort It was chilly at night No BBQ in the cottage
Location, staff, room, Great Room, food, were all very good. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Wifi was apalling, being free it is difficult to complain, but it was extremely frustrating with constant drop outs and slooow speed.
The serene location and spectacular ocean view. Great food, very friendly and accommodating staff.
It does take quite a awhile to get there from Nanaimo but was well worth it!!.
