Score from 147 reviews Very good
Food wonderful, cleanliness dreadful.
Great location, near Parliament Hill, theater, convention cenyer, shopping and restaurants & pubs. The staff was wonderful. The hotel was elegant, with a lovely lobby to hang out in. Despite its elegance, the hotel felt very welcoming and comfortable... not at all "stuffy".
There wasn't anything we didn't like.
The hotel location is great
Rooms are very dated. They look the same as when I was there 26 years ago. The rooms that my colleagues and I booked were extremely small, especially for a 2 night stay. A bit disappointing.
Location is really good.
Exercise room in basement. Not all elevators go to basement. Missing some basic simple equipment like stability ball or an ab roller. Main prob was that if you are unlucky with elevator on way down you have to walk thru lobby in gym clothes.
That staff and the food were excellent especially Jade who remembered my Birthday !
The plumbing was extremely noisy as were guests in the adjacent rooms..especially at night with doors banging shut
location easy on pocket
the staff in the restaurant were not very attentive and i felt i was treated like i was not good enough to be there
The location of the hotel is ideal. The heritage look of the exterior is very nice and blends well with Parliament, the Chateau Laurier and the Supreme Court building.
Supreme let down. In addition to the interior falling well-short of what I expected from the outside, and the room being terrible, I had a horrible experience with the Valet. Upon arrival, the first thing he asked me was if I knew this was the Lord Elgin hotel. I said that I had a reservation and he questioned me on how I made it (online or phone). He then aggressively tried to get me to park off-site because, in his opinion, the valet service isn't worth the $28 they charge at the hotel. He made me feel like he didn't want to park my car. And when I was leaving the hotel, I gave the bell hop my luggage tickets and valet ticket and he said "I'll take you luggage ticket, but what do you want me to do with that?" He instructed me I needed to find a valet to give the ticket to. The valet was standing next to him at the time. When he brought my car up, there were two people in it (the passenger was in street clothes), which made me think the valet gave his friend a ride from somewhere. The passenger then left the area when I asked about it. Sadly, the Lord Elgin is only a shell of what it once was and the service was the worst hotel experience I've ever had.
Front desk staff at check in were great . Pool. Beds . Pillows.
The history and location, the friendly staff especially housekeeping and management
It's hard to think about I didn't like so I guess I liked everything
The place was very clean the staff very nice also the view was good.
No fan in the bathroom Better parking for you customer should not have to pay for parking it should include in the hotel price.
Phil & Anwar really made our stay with their attentive services, a huge advantage to staying in a historic hotel with a great reputation for service.
Dining room service needs to be more personable. Take the time to know you guest and enhance guest experience
Theonly good thing about this hotel is its location
The quality does not match the price. The concierge staff was very cooperative and helpful while the staff at reception was least interested in providing the hotel information and wishing a wonderful stay at the property which they hoped I had upon checking out.
The location in Ottawa is perfect. Able to walk everywhere.
A misunderstanding about the green program. If you hang the tag on your door you get a $5 coupon but the room doesn't get made up. We thought at least they would make up the bed and refresh the glasses etc. We didn't need linens changed.
Rooms were very clean and comfortable, quite spacious. All staff we encountered were friendly. Front desk especially, help give us directions and plan our sight seeing for the day. Hotel has a lot of character and in a great location, close to Byward Market and Parliament. Highly recommend.
Nothing bad to say.
Lord Elgin has, as do many other hotels, an Eco friendly option where you can choose to not have your bed linen or towels changed, and as a reward get a $5 coupon to use in the on-site Starbucks. So my husband and I chose this option as we like to doour bit to help out the environment. When we reutrned to our room, latish on Sat night, we found that NOTHING had been done to our room! No beds made, no garbage emptied - obviously housekeeping had not set foot in our room. My husband was feeling unwell and just needed to lie down, so I did not bother to call the front desk as I did not want him to be disrupted. When we checked out the next morning and the front desk asked how our stay was, I told them about the problem. This is what they said, oh there seems to be a bit of confusion about that program - if you hang the sign on your door that indicates your involvedment in the eco program, then housekeeping doesnt go into your room. I said seriously? Well, that's not an ecological saving, that's a saving for the hotel on housekeeping time! And its ridiculous! They dont even empty my garbage or check that there is enough toilet paper? Then she changed her tune slightly and said "well maybe did you have your do not disturb sign up?"...so clearly this was going to be my fault, no matter what. All they did was apologize, and say they will mention it to housekeeping. NOT ACCEPTABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I travel to Ottawa 4 or 5 times a year, and I will NEVER stay here again, and I do not recommend it.
best things about this hotel were the beds, housekeeping staff - most helpful, friendly and kind - and the delicious food! My crepes, the morning u left, were exceptional. :)
Front desk staff was competent, but not as helpful as in other recent hotels. Maps not readily available and had to ask for help re airport transport - normally readily offered. Had to ask for every tidbit of information. Odd. No robe in room.
The amenities provided ie fridge, coffee, wi-fi, "Restaurant on site."
Very uncomfortale bed; time to change the mattress. Thermostat was broken. Maintenance staff could not fix it so gave us a fan which did not help much. When I made the reservations, the total price was $587.00. When I received the final bill, it was $778.14. I understand the $28.00 per day for parking and the taxes, but not the daily increase in the room rate. Why do they not give the total price including all taxes when the reservations are made?
Location was great.
Parking fee was too high. Not a sufficient supply of coffee in room only one per person. No body wash in room.
I was expecting more of a wow factor based on name and reputation. The hotel rooms were dated, small and noisy.
location, location, location!
location and friendly, helpful, professional staff
pillows are not comfortable, the ac fan was very loud.
The restaurant was excellent and the waitstaff very nice. Housekeeping staff was lovely.
The front lobby needs to be more welcoming as well as the front desk staff. There is a need for a concierge as I was given misinformation directions and times incorrectly by the front desk on two occasions. Also there are no in room safes and the front desk was unwilling to change currency.
