Room was nice and super clean with beautiful hardwood floors. Amazing location and view, and excellent restaurant but only open for dinner. Games room for ping pong and shuffleboard, small exercise room, steam room, lounge. Didn't use the pool or hot tub. The free standing cottages look amazing and spacious. Complimentary coffee and toast in the a.m. was nice. Enjoyed watching aerial and undersea tours of the area created by one of the resort staff.
Room was small, only had one night stand, small table and chair, not much counter space with coffee maker close to sink with toiletries. Balcony not covered so in the rain can get wet. Restaurant was not open for breakfast or lunch. No microwave or fridge in room but was available down the hall.
The setting is stunning. Views like this are not usually available at this price. But be prepared with ear plugs, a flashlight if two people like to read in bed, and perhaps make a 2nd bedside table using a suitcase on the suitcase stand. If you want coffee before 9 am, do find out how to get the coffee for the room coffee maker.
The location was beautiful, the rooms had large balconies overlooking the ocean, the food in the restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced.
Upon arrival, there was nobody at reception to greet or let us in. There was a man talking on the phone in n office in the back, but he didnt acknowledge us at all. After 10 minutes, we went to the restaurant and asked th bartender if there was anyone who could check us in. He came around and went in the back office and mouthed "tenants are here!" and pointed to us. We thanked him, but then continued to wait for another 5 or 10 minutes. I went to get the bartender yet again to help, and he called another person. Finally though, the man in the office got off the phone to come help us. We went to get brochures for things to do, and they were covered in dust and cobwebs. The alarm clock was from about 1970, and we couldnt get it working, nor trusted reception to call us for wakeup at 530 am (the only ferry we could get the next day was at 7 am), because there was never anyone there. We had a very restless sleep.
The location on Bennett Bay is quiet and relaxing. The bistro on the first floor is excellent and probably the best place to eat on the island.
The walls were quite thin, so noise traveled between rooms. Not a problem for us, but it did make us a bit uncomfortable about having our baby girl along.
Location was beautiful with views of the ocean. The restaurant was superb.
The property smells like sewer. Not anyone's fault because there is no system on the island but the smell certainly does take away from the experience.
View from our balcony was gorgeous. Breakfast was great
For a 2 night stay we did not have any housekeeping service and had to ask for clean cups, glasses and coffee in our room. We were told that we should not expect this service! Super thin walls so were woken at 6 am both mornings
Sunrise viewing from the deck
no free breakfast
The location is great, with amazing views of the ocean and surrounding islands. Very close to the beach. The pool and hot tub are nice and not crowded at all while we were there. The restaurant is very conveniently located and the food and service is quite good.
Like other reviews say, the accommodations can be quite different depending what building you are in and the money you are willing to spend. The old building is quite noisy; some of the rooms are right above the restaurant and when people are eating you can hear their conversation or you can look down and see what every one is eating. While you will appreciate the age and history of the building you can also smell it. If you like the new, modern and more expensive stuff, book one of the cottages or villas.
Beautiful bay with nice view in the morning/night
Agree with some of the other reviews, the rooms were very small, old and run down looking (although it was equipped with wireless router and new tv). Mattress was had a huge ridge in the centre and pillows were like puffy tubes. The price is definitely for location/view, not the room..to sum it up.
The location is fantastic, right next to a beautiful bay with a path through arbutus groves out to the point.
The manager was rambling and not aware we were tired. There was no ice or bucket in the Resort, so I had to go to the restaurant (which seems like part of the Resort). Most menu items were not available.
The pick up and drop off service was awesome and really made our trip a lot easier. We loved the food at the restaurant, the location, the friendly staff and the grounds. We hope to make it our weekend getaway for mini vacations! Kayaking was amazing (lots of wildlife).
We couldn't stay longer!
Nice view, and quiet after the Bistro shut down.
The room needed a paint job. There was a picture missing from the feature wall with screws still in the wall. The bathroom had many scuffs and stains and no sink. Sink was in main entrance way. No closet. I'd probably opt for a bigger room next time, but for our purposes the queen was adequate. We had a nice getaway.
We loved our stay in one of the newly constructed villas. Spacious, clean, new and modern decor, comfortable and includes all the necessary appliances.
Originally we booked a room, thinking it looked like the pictures on the website, but when we arrived we saw that it was not at all like the pictures, in fact it was a very small run down room that is part of the original building that used to be a boarding house! I am writing this because the website is deceiving, just to earn other potential guests. If you don't mind paying more for a villa they are very lovely however.
Our room had a ocean view and we enjoyed the sunset. The resort is well located, close to hiking trails, kayak rental (the bay is so beautiful), wine store with good selection. Restaurant has good food and spa is great. Friendly service
The view was great and the Ceasar salad was the best I have had
The room was not that clean the wine glasses had lip marks from previous visitors, long cob webs in corners and in bathroom, hair on bathroom floor. The beach was not accessible to visitors in hotel you had to be in the cabins and when you got down there it was disappointing the pier to the dock was covered in fungus and looked like it was unsafe. Needs a little tlc. No window to open at night and no airconditioner had to sleep with french doors to easily accessible balcony open they did provide a small fan
The villa had a wonderful kitchen, high end finishes throughout, and was very tastefully decorated in a contemporary, west coast style.
The restaurant was just average for service and food. Not fine dining, but perfectly adequate. Portions of protein were on the small side. No real complaints, I just wasn't "wowed".
Place and location are a dream
I really was impressed that the staff had looked at my comment section and called me to meet my request. I was concerned that some reviews had mentioned the small size of the rooms and small showers . I had asked if some rooms were a bit larger with a bathtub and I got a call saying I could get that room if I switched for the following weekend and so I did. I was really impressed with that as so many other times at other places these requests have been ignored. I loved the balcony and view!! The bedding was wonderful and so comfortable .
I thought the sink could use a Reno . It was nice to have a bathtub but it was quite shallow so could be replaced with a soaker tub. The rooms are over the restaurant patio so there was a large party outside that was quite noisy but it was happy noise do it didn't bother me too much.
Lovely setting, great hotel ambiance, view & balcony wonderful, enjoyed food in the bar area. Felt relaxed. Enjoyed the pool, hot tub jacuzzi & sauna & exercise room. Liked the fact we could have brought the dogs. Weather is apparently nicer on Mayne Isl. than a lot of other areas.
No closet & only 3 very small drawers in only 1 night table. We just put our bags on floor & got our stuff out of them as no place to hang anything. OK for our 2 night stay but I like keeping things a bit neater.
All staff were most accommodating, friendly and helpful. Courtesy was shown on an exemplary scale. The food, service and views from the "Bristo" were really outstanding. Haven't felt that special for a long time. Well done.
After a cold harsh winter, the cleanliness needed some work.
I loved the view, the staff, location, and the amenities
Room could have had some more comfortable chairs.
Loved the location, onsite restaurant, pool and spa facilities, and that we were able to have our dog with us. Our cottage was beautifully appointed and equipped. Staff was friendly and accommodating - very laid back.
Communication seemed a bit lacking among staff. We requested a dog friendly cottage when we booked online and called the resort directly to confirm that we would get one, but when we arrived we'd been booked into room that was not pet friendly. They were eventually able to accommodate us in a lovely cottage near the beach, but were clear that it might not have been possible. I also found it inconvenient that there was no staff on duty after business hours... we had problems with our TV and were unable to get assistance with it. This wasn't more than an inconvenience, but we would have liked to have had the option of watching a movie after a day of kayaking and beachcombing (especially give the premium price we paid to stay there). Overall we enjoyed ourselves, so these are minor complaints.
The location is as good as the photos suggest
hotel staff very friendly, pool and hot tub were nice, the pool is alittle small would be crouded in season.
the restaurant wasnt open the nights we stayed. no bathtub only a shower, rooms are quitw noisy from other quests.
View; comfortable bed
no elevator; no room-cleaning; very small room and bathroom
