Friendly host, lovely huskies, nice lake view, a good B&B option in Yellowknife old town
Mrs. Cathy was so helpfull, the Dogs are amazing, my room was HUGE, the breakfast was delicious. The Nothern Lights almost knock at your door to say we're here!
Great location, clean place, great price
my boyfriend and I spend 5 days in Narwal B&B. We both enjoyed the cozy room and excellent services. Cathy ( the owner) is very nice and considerate, even made breakfast for us when we slept in and missed the breakfast. Location is great if you travel with a car. We will definitely come back if we return to yellowknife!
location, friendliness of owner
need a little more of a breakfast
They are very kind. I felt that I was home.
I stayed in the Queen room for 4 nights. It was recently renovated but lacked the microwave and fridge shown in the photos on the booking site so not as self contained as hoped and expected. Found noise to be an issue as the location of the room meant that front doors, door to common area and staircase use were easily heard. Because most guests have traveled in hopes to see the Northern Lights, there was fairly consistent in and out to check the skies as well as in and out of kitchen to use the facilities. Plus you need to remember that there is a family that lives above you. There was also sound from the water pump whenever someone uses water. Cannot comment if other rooms were similarly affected. Personally I had no issue with the continental breakfast as other commenters have mentioned. Knew about it in advance and I prefer to eat at the various local restaurants anyway. I particularly enjoyed the raisin bannock bread. The set up of this B&B is different than what you may have come to expect elsewhere. It isn't a dedicated hospitality setting. It is more like you are staying in the spare bedroom/suite/rec room at someone's house. And if you need anything (which I didn't), you will have to go upstairs and ask, which would make me feel awkward as it would feel like I was interrupting, when I was the one paying a decent amount of money to stay there. There is little interaction unless you happen to bump into a member of the family while they are downstairs. Everyone I did speak with were gracious and welcoming. Location of this property was the best part. Easy walk to Old and New town. The view is great and was lucky enough to see the aurora for 3 out of the 4 nights. I would also highly recommend a walk on the ice road as well as eating at Bullocks and Dancing Moose. And pay a visit to Mother Earth Rocks -- Danny and Laura are a couple of the most kind and genuinely warm people out there.
This setting is not for everyone but if you are OK with a casual atmosphere and potential noise, then in my opinion, you can't beat the location.
Staffs are very kind and friendly. The location is good. It takes about 15 minutes to downtown. It is good that breakfast is different every morning.
I could hear voices in the next room because of thin walls (between green room and blue room). The breaker trips when stoves are used at the same time in both rooms.
everything, including the 3 in-house dogs!
Again, all good!!
This is a real B&B. You kind of get along as if you were at home or visiting an old friend. We also liked being near the lake and trees but still within walking distance of Yellowknife centre.
Nothing to add here. All good.
All people in this B&B are very friendly. The location is extremely good with aurora just outside it at night. The frozen lake is beautiful. It is not far from the downtown. The breakfast is yummy and with various variety every day. I like the healthy version of home made croissant (both bacon and chocolate) very much. The three dogs are large but very timid.
The mattresses are a bit too soft for us. It will be better to have harder one. It will be better to provide snowmobiles for hire to play in the frozen lake.
Staff are really nice. Tea, coffee juice etc all there to help yourself. Room was comfortable and there is a heater so you can keep yourself warm. Lounge is comfortable with cable TV. Great location if you want to see the northern lights, you can see them right there as it's far enough away from city lights.
Bathroom and kitchen could have been cleaned more often/better.
For aurora hunters, it's a perfect choice. The Queen is wonderful, you can just go out onto the frozen Great Slave Lake for photographing whenever you see aurora coming out through the window from the room. The dogs are lovely.
The breakfast is very basic.
Honestly, the staff were phenomenal. So helpful, kind and friendly. You'd forget that it was a home-business. Location was lovely, beautiful view of the lake.
Wifi was almost non-existent. Couldn't load a website. Upstairs was very noisy. Lots of banging and running around. Shower wasn't clean (I believe it was an oversight because everything else was immaculate). Breakfast was very basic. Almost like the left overs from the fridge- very disappointed at that.
see northern light in front of door good location
The location is good
The "breakfasts" are not really breakfasts, they just consist in some slices of orange.
Great location. Great people. Great fresh baked food every morning.
Cosy, warm welcome, clean!
Lack of breakfast..
very helpful staff
bed is too soft house keeping is no good
Good lake view. You can see northern light just walk out the front door. We saw northern light in red, green and purple colours, so amazing ! Anytime, you can get drinks and snacks at the common room.
Serious problem of noise from day to night and from night to day, you can't sleep. Noise comes from water pipes, electricity equipments and peoples, mainly comes from the upper floor. There are strong lights at the front door, so you must leave the house at least 10 meters in order to take photos of northern light. That means you have to walk near the lake at dark night, you can imagine the difficulties. Suggest the host to turn off those lights.
