location, the room was super cozy and I loved the beautiful craftsman house . the breakfast was wonderful and the hosts were fabulous. lots of good talks
agencies who book this tend to overbook, not the fault of the owners
The owner and his wife. Private bathroom was lovely. The "cute" breakfast & especially the owner's homemade muffins. Free parking.
Bed not firm enough. Room was a bit small.
The food at breakfast & conversation was healthy
This was a beautiful character home with surprisingly many modern conveniences. The hosts were wonderful, and were very informative of the local history. Their breakfasts were exceptional. More than what we normally eat, however, the food was too good to pass up. Great location.
A beautiful home in a picturesque location with charming and accommodating hosts. A great stay all around!
We liked the location to town,Butchart Gardens ,bus to Victoria, ease of access to ferries.
lack of space in room. Little space for suitcases.
The Orchard House is a 5 minute walk from the Anacortes/Sydney Ferry. And another 5 minute walk into downtown Sydney, and a 5 minute walk to the excellent transit system, which can take you to Victoria and Butchart Gardens for 2.50. The WI-FI was immediately available, and really fast. Breakfast was excellent, not overwhelming, but the whole grain/bran muffins and jam were right next to me, if I wasn't satisfied with the souffle in a ramekin. I usually wouldn't stop for breakfast, but the conversation at the table was as good as the meal. Gerry has been doing this for 25 years and it shows in his hospitality and awareness of what the traveler would appreciate in a place to rest.
The food was good and the staff was friendly.
I had a senior with me and the stairs were a little awkward. The room was a little smaller than I expected from the internet picture.
Such a charming place! The room and bathroom were spacious, the bed was super comfortable, and the owners were very friendly. The food was tasty and light-- perfect to get you ready for the day without weighing you down.
I wish there was more variety with the meals; 6 out of 7 days we had egg dishes. Don't expect large breakfasts (or bacon) as they like to keep meals light and healthy. This suited us just fine, but some guests might want more of a substantial meal.
Engaging couple who run the place with good history knowledge and conversation. A home with character and a history. Excellent breakfast with plenty of coffee and tea (oh, and fresh blueberries each morning!). Easy walking access to town and the attractions/restaurants in Sidney. Good value.
Nothing to dislike. If you like glass, chrome, polished wood, and a valet you won't enjoy Orchard House! To ask an elderly person about 'quality of sleep' is hilarious; it varies, regardless of the location or the bed!!
The place need a good cleaning and it had a musty smell. Couldn't open the windows very much and no cross air flow. I would not go back.
Charming Craftsman-style heritage house in quiet neighbourhood within easy walking distance of town centre. Interesting hosts, great breakfast, comfortable room.
Really liked the location and the price. We could walk anywhere we wanted to go downtown or to the beach. Food was healthy and bed was comfortable. Gerry was helpful with local information and he was very trusting and had a good sense of humour.
Breakfast was always at 8, even on a weekend. The rooms haven't been updated in what seems like 60 years or more. No sound barrier whatsoever so you can hear what is going on in the next room. Planes take off and land so close to the house that you can count the screws on their underbellies... All day and late into the night. No plug to use in the bathroom.
Location. Gay (Gayle?) was pleasant.
Room and bath very cold. Just a small plugin heater available. Didn't like that he asked our political preference at breakfast. Rather strange.
Unpleasant odor. Smelly pillows. Fixed time for breakfast - too early. No choice for breakfast. Lack of overall comfort. Small room - not as advertised, windows wedged open. Under flight path to airport. When owner went to bed, he switched off TV, so even if you wanted to watch anything, you couldn't .
+old Victorian Home with antiques +friendly host +very nice breakfast +accommodated our late arrival
-a little tired -small shower and toilet located in room closets
Beautiful old house. Very comfortable room and a wonderful breakfast.
Lovely historical house. Egg was good at morning breakfast.
Bed was Broken and very uncomfortable. Home directly under flight path so very loud. Owner had breakfast with us and complained how much I did not eat. We paid for 3 nights upfront cash but bailed after one horrible night. No tv in room and front lounge was not shown as something to use. It was also not a fresh smelling place.
Very good breakfast. Host was very friendly and enjoyable.
The bed mattress really needs to be replaced. It was like sleeping in a hammock. It is a nice heritage home with lots on interesting history and artifacts.
The location is quiet and close to airport. The owner is an old man, but OK.
The room is a bit smell and shower room is too small (did not use anyway). The owner is OK , but time of check in and out are not flexible. BF is too late (from 8pm) and we missed it because of early flight. NOT accept VISA.
The owner Gerry is very interesting and engaging-has lots of knowledge of the area and is eager to share it. Ideal location for walking in the Sidney.
