The staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean. Easy access to bars and the restaurant.
Having to leave :(
I was set to get a room. Got in off the ferry to the red lion to find out the rain had caused a leak in the room. They set me up to stay at the helms inn suite. I only paid the same cost and the red lion paid the rest
Staffs were wonderful. Clean and recently renovated room. Great value for the price.
Everything was perfect but we went to stay elsewhere because there were no smoking rooms
Great location for my needs.
Room carpet needs replacing
Uptown was up the way and mayfair mall was close
The amount of undesirable people around and in this so called hotel. Our room was dirty all the time, there was food left on the floor from previous people. They never cleaned the tub, I put a hair in the tub to see if they would clean and didn't, never gave us coffee refills had to go ask. Still food left on the walls in the kitchen. Someone smeared snot on the walls and it was never cleaned. Its a very unappealing place, not at all what they advertise it is. Never never stay HERE!
Taxi ride from downtown is short. Convenience store on site that included beverages. In spite of location on Main Street, rooms are tucked behind and quiet. Bicycle/ walking path behind hotel.
Nightclub on the far side - to be fair we did not hear anything!
great place to stay.
Great location. Right on Canada Hwy 1 so easy to access to other areas of the island. Clean and affordable.
Flat (pancake) pillows and on site restaurants were sketchy.
comfortable for a fair price
a while to go to the city, but it is easy to take the bus
We stayed in this hotel 10 years ago. Its in a very good location, 10 minute taxi drive to Victoria downtown or a good bus ride the stop is almost outside the hotel. On the main highway to travel North. A very good sports bar downstairs with good food. Plenty of diners within walking distance for breakfast or evening meals.
The location was great - just off a major road so not noisy, and across the street from a major mall. Beds were comfortable; fridge/microwave were great for traveling with young babies (we had 2 month old twins).
There were some stains on the decorative pillows and coverlet that were disconcerting, but sheets (and bathroom) were clean. I had requested a crib that was not there on arrival.
Staff were great, rooms were excellent.
When we originally made reservations, we were just expecting a regular hotel room with just the bed...we were surprised to find a room with a living room, small kitchen and separate bedroom! :)
A little far of a walk to downtown, but nothing that can't be solved by taking the bus. The hotel is on one of the main roads, so everything was fine.
The hotel was very clean and quiet. Room was very clean and recently updated. Easy access to downtown.
Staff could have been more knowledgeable about local and building facilities, ie. restaurant menu in it's own hotel. Parking at arena.
Adequate room size with basic amenities. Clean and quiet.
the neighbourhood was a little seedy. Has a liquor store next to it and heard a brawl in the parking lot. No coffee shop in vicinity
location, pricing, Wi-Fi, staff
mattress this time not as good as other times
The building is in decent shape and the rooms are clean and acceptably furnished. The hotel is reasonably close to downtown and the other areas we wanted to visit. It's nice that there's an indoor pool, but we never used it.
It was extremely off-putting to arrive in the lobby and find it deserted -- this was at about 8 PM on a Monday night. There was no one there, either in the lobby itself or behind the desk. There was no bell to ring, but I called out and no one appeared. To add to the ambiance, a wild-eyed street person wandered in and asked me for money -- I declined, and when I called out again for a staff member, this guy started trying to "help" me by pacing around the lobby and looking for signs of an employee. Mildly comical in retrospect, but pretty unwelcome at the time. After a good 10 minutes and another request for money from my drifter friend, the desk clerk walked in from outside, smelling strongly of cigarettes. He rushed behind the desk and processed my check-in, without apologizing for his absence. Finally we were checked in. About a half-hour later, after we'd moved into our rooms and gotten our baggage from the car, I went out to move my car from the check-in spot and re-park it. Once again the lobby was deserted, and when I was pulling the car into the new spot, the desk clerk walked by me on his way back to the hotel, with a grocery bag in hand. How long had he been gone, with the front desk unattended? The rest of our stay was just acceptable -- not great, not terrible -- but the shoddy supervision of the lobby left me unimpressed.
That the staff was very helpful, Mall's and restaurants close by, and on the bus line that was so easy to use.
Liked the location, service, it was clean and good value .
Always went out to eat, rather than go the Chinese restaurant at the hotel.
Before I arrived, I saw reviews online & some were not so good, saying it was in a seedy part of town, had spiders, etc... couldn't be more untrue. I think those reviews must be from competitors. I found the hotel to be in a good uptown location, walking distance to the new mall & Walmart, accessible to all bus lines to downtown & to UVic. Was very clean room & bath, quiet at night, good wi-fi, nice TV, & Chinese restaurant downstairs was very popular & served Dim Sum too.
I can't think of much I didn't like. I enjoyed the few days I was there & would stay there again next time.
The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, sheets very crisp and clean. The washroom was spotless clean. All in all good value for money and the location .
very clean place, everything is good
It had good access to main traffic arteries, and the room was better than expected for the price, well appointed, clean and comfortable.
Unexpected kitchenette area was a pleasant surprise. Good value for money Clean room Perfect for an overnight stay and visit to Victoria
No view, but didn't expect one due to the location
