bed was amazing very clean great location
Location and price.
Wifi is intermittent .
there was already papers and wrappers in the recycling bin. The bathtub was not clean upon check in or the second day after cleaning.
Excellent location for Downtown meeting with clients. Small accommodations but comfortable.Pleasant staff.
(NB: I know Calgary well (resident)). The location is ideal for getting on transit; whether you are going NW or into town. The east LRT is across the road and the NW LRT is one block away. The Day to Evening Staff are pleasant and friendly. The internet was down for most of the day – the staff allowed guests to use their office computer. The shuttle bus to the airport is cheaper than using a taxi but mine left 5 mins early, so in the end I had to pay for a taxi $45 as oppose to $15. I was downstairs at the desk and saw him- he refuse to turn back to the hotel.
The night manager was not helpful or pleasant. If you needed assistance, you felt you were bothering him. The rooms are not fresh looking, the heating was loud. The elevators are not smooth, they felt unsafe and they are obviously old. The bed was uncomfortable you could feel the wire from the spring mattress and hear the elevators moving up and down. I ended up changing rooms, which was the last thing I wanted to do. The counter tops in the bathroom are very narrow. The tv remotes should have new clean covers on them - for sanitary reason. The towels did not smell clean and fresh. Although the cleaning staff were helpful they wore the same gloves to clean and to handle and fold clean towels. The internet kept coming and going - to only hear later that it would be down for most of the day! The hotel should have better food than what Moxies can provide. The food was mediocre. The shuttle bus to the airport is cheaper than using a taxi but mine left 5 mins early (ordered for 11:24am), so in the end I had to pay for a taxi $45 as oppose to $15. I was (at 11:19am) downstairs checking out at the desk and saw him –not only did he not come in for a last check to look for customers he refused (when called) to turn back to the hotel. He was called specially – so he knew he had at least someone to pick up. The staff need to let people know they can catch a shuttle bus. Too many extra tourism tax charges.
Bed was great and the shower but facility is old.
Hot pool not working- we should have been told before, also the fact that the charges were not given equally to each night again we should have been told before we booked.
Very convenient location in Calgary for business as it located on the C-train and give one travel options to most areas of the city.
In someone's wisdom, the thermostat is placed inside the wall unit heater for the room and the temperature control is terrible. Its either cold or very warm in the room. The thermostat needs to be put back on the wall away from the heater so that it can regulate the temperature properly.
The room layout was great, and the bed very comfortable. Room service excellent! The location was also very good. I was within walking distance to the office.
quiet, clean and compfy
Friendly and accommodating front desk staff
Elevators are not working most of the time. Scary. Afraid well get trap.
The staff was friendly and it was easy walking distance to where we wanted to go.
We weren't advised about parking prior to arriving. We paid $34 for parking because we arrived early. Because the lot is City of Calgary, too, weren't reimbursed when it would have only been $5 if confirmation would have said to stop at reception prior to parking.
Good location, downstairs Moxies good restaurant
Small room, shabbily decorated, unhelpful staff.
location food and service
unclean old facilities old bathroom fittings
Staff were good, the checkout person almost made me forget all the issues because he was so professional.
Might be nitpicky, but they put me by the elevator so from early in the morning to late at night you hear them whooshing up and down. Two days in a row they just left me decaf coffee I had to go down and exchange it for regular. Room was okay, but dated (and the desk person said they try to avoid putting anyone on the 9th floor and below because the rooms were not updated). Wifi was intermittent and you had to wait 2 minutes and 45 seconds for hot water to get to the bathroom taps. Like most dated hotels the hot tub didn't work.
This was my fourth stay at this Calgary City Centre hotel - and probably my last. The hotel seems to be going downhill rapidly. I had the smallest room yet, tucked away behind the elevators. The bedside lamp was constantly flickering which was very annoying. Despite several requests, no-one came to attend to it. The whole place is desperately in need of refurbishment, especially the bar (dirty) and Moxies (which used to be quite good). The food was just 'OK' but staff everywhere (except the room maid) seemed to have to make an effort to serve anyone. Incredible difference between this and Sandman Signature.
Location was great
WIFI was very spotty and the Ethernet cable was broken. Maintenance staff have a sense of humor though, the put up the towel hook in the bathroom upside down.
It was a place to stay down town, and close to the business, that I had to be at.
The room carpet was dirty, the bathroom was really small, the cleaning maid did not take out all the dirty towls. The lighting was poor. The air circulation was poor, no air vent in the bathroom, or does it not work. NO Mention that you had to pay for Parking, $24. a day. The toilet seat, is about to fall off, needs to be tightin.
The front desk staff were friendly and helpful to me throughout my stay. My room had a good desk and lamp to work at. The hotel is next to the C-Line, making it convenient to go places.
The hotel is old and needs updating. There was a foul smell outside my room door that was masked by a scent. My room was cold with no extra blankets in the room. There is not enough space in the bathroom to have my toiletries. Everything was very basic. I could hear guests talking in the next room, therefore sound-proofing was not apparent. Outside the hotel were a number of homeless people along with others dealing drugs (or drinking) in the nearby park. This did not inspire a sense of safety for me, as I was travelling alone.
Internet connection was non existent
Location. Literally across the street from 8th street stop on C-train. Downtown location. Everything walking distance. Safe and clean.
I slept but light sleepers may not. Bedroom next to lifts and they can be heard going up and down. I could hear my neighbours. Doors are ill fitting. But everyplace I've been to in Canada has gaps and spaces between the door and frame /door/ floor. 3 stars here are not the same standard as 3 star in Europe.
Moxie' s is very handy to have at the hotel. It was easy to control the temperature in the room. Great shower head.
There was construction and it was difficult to get to the hotel. The roof of the parking lot is very low. There were stains on the bed spread.
The sandman is an ok hotel in a good location. The rest of the hotel is ok it would be great if the rest of the hotel was raised to the standard set by its lobby and in house restaurant.
The Internet ridiculously slow... I could not use Skype because the wifi was so shaky. The air was dry and poor my sinuses bothered me during my entire visit
Big bright light outside my window. Room not very clean (floors and bathroom). Location not the best found out later "Crack Alley". Train directly across the street.
Great location next to the light rail.
Parking was expensive. Room was small, especially the bathroom. Restaurant had awful service, but food was ok.
