Noisy There isn´y any wardrobe There is a strange smell inside the room and hotel Is near to a dangerous park (people takes metadonne)
Before we arrived, the things we liked about this place were: location- nearby our points of interest, price with options for breakfast, WiFi and cheaper onsite parking. After we arrived (after we found the place) the best things were: still a location, WiFi in the room, and staff, especially Alex. The hotel is located on a festive street (pedestrian only in summer!) in Gay village, decorated with thousands of pink balls and boiling with life (bars, restaurants, theaters), street art and performers. We got a quiet room at the backside of the hotel (as requested during booking) with only noisemakers being a shower and other visitors. WiFi in the room was always good, reliable. A positive thing was a fridge but no coffee/tea maker or a microwave in the room. There was one in the cozy little breakfast room though, available at any time if we wanted. Reserved monitored parking was available at any time. We were assured that security of the parking and hotel is at high level at all times because they monitor them with webcams 24/7. Most backyard windows but had metal bars on them. The most valuable part of the hotel is Alex. He was extremely helpful with anything we needed: helping us up the spiral stairs with our suitcases, a helpful hand with a difficult to close window, safety in the hotel and parking, extraordinary service at breakfast, LOTS of useful tips and suggestions for events and driving directions, site seeing in Montreal and Quebec. Alex was the main factor, the shining star that kept me in this hotel instead of running away in search of the other place to stay. We also met a couple nice friendly international families there.
Inaccurate information about the hotel. There was no advance notice that we wouldn't be able to drive to a hotel by the address given because Ste-Catherine street is closed for vehicles and turned into the pedestrian area in summer. To get to our pre-paid parking we had to leave a car a block away, walk to a hotel and come back to the backyard of the hotel following instructions we got from the desk guy (Alex). As someone mentioned in other reviews the entrance to the hotel is easy to miss even when you already know where to come back because it's tightly tucked in between of other properties in the same building. When you open the front door there is no hallway or lobby, you have instantly climb up the stairs and look for a "reception desk", which is a window from/into the tiny security/reception room. To get to the rooms you'll have to take a few more stairs no matter which: second or third floor you'll be on. I didn't notice that there would be any first floor rooms there. The second way to get into your room, especially if you're with a car parked in the backyard hotel parking space, are metal spiral stairs, sticky from something someone poured on them. Imagine making it up and down with several suitcases! But stairs are not the worst thing (if you're not too old or disabled). They are a part of the Montreal architecture style, the part of hotel's "character". The worst thing is - the place is stinky. The smell met us as soon as we opened the door, and it became even worse in the room. They have a huge no smoking sign at the top of front stairs and we booked a non-smoking room but ended up in a place that smells like people have smoked there for years and the old smell of smoke soaked into the walls, blankets and sheets. They try to disguise that smell with Air fresheners but that makes things even worse. We asked not to spray anything while doing housekeeping during our stay. It didn’t help much...
Quiet atmophere in the hotel, very pleasant staff, availabillity of parking
bathroom was quite small.
I like the location and the staff was very friendly
The bathroom was a bit small, but I made it work
Clean, quiet and spacious. And really cheap! Staff was friendly and helpful. Near to two subway stations (Beaudry and Papineau) and accessible to McDonalds and other good restaurants.
Too bloody cold. The AC was full blown. Better curtains and bedding would be great. The bedding felt cheap and rough like it was bought from Dollarama. Curtain was too short and barely covered the window properly.
Friendly, helpful staff plus a good location
Location was right downtown in The Village. Close enough to take the metro (a couple of blocks up). A lot of shops and bars in the area. The place was clean and felt secure. It is a great place to stay for a night or two and have a great time in the city.
It was easy to find but parking area was not easy to locate. It's not a five star hotel but it was clean and inexpensive.
The room itself was adequate and clean.
Outside of the room appeared dirty and uncomfortable
Friendly staff. Great location. Excellent value. Perfect for budget stay in beautiful Montreal.
A bit grimy and run down.
The reception was really friendly!
Old building Not value for the money It seemed dirty
We had good time with this hotel. Price is very reasonable compared to location and cheap parking. The person who manage the hotel is very friendly and nice. Highly recommend.
Staff are friendly and willing to help. Gave us great close locations for food, while suggesting a weekend metro pass and maps to got further. The street was closed off (summer occurrence) giving us lots of patios to explore. Metro is very close but we did walk to Old Montreal. Cirque Du Soleil happened to be playing there in a huge tent. An added adventure to our stay.
Like others have said, stairs need recarpeting. Tile job in bathroom, not the best; but clean, no mold.
Clean room with washroom. Staff are helpful, breakfast included.Location to main sights and shops.
Too close to gay village (at the end of it's main street)
Everything else. This shouldn't be on booking.com
On site parking. Helpful and accommodating staff. Cleaning crew reliable. Value for the money.
Staff was helpful and great location
Rooms were very small but clean
it is in the gay area and we were the straight guys - so it was difficult to live there
For the price, it was a good value. A double room in MTL for less than #100. is a good deal. It seems freshly painted and on site parking is great.
It is really old and the beds are lumpy. The long flight of stairs are a hard climb,
Location is amazing. Within the walking distance to all major places of interest and virtually in the center of fun events, restaurants, bars and clubs. And for those who prefer to walk less there's a metro station and a bus stop less than a minute away. Room was small but overall clean.
Room had no closet so it was kind of crowded with all the luggage but we didn't mind it. You really can't beat the price and location. I wouldn't recommend using the dresser, the one in our room had a funky smell inside. If you need a place just to sleep while you enjoying Montreal, like we did, this hotel is perfect. If you planning to spend lots of time in the room then maybe look elsewhere.
Besides the excellent location, the room and bathroom were very clean.
The carpeting in the stairs makes you feel you're staying at a dump!
low price, fridge and hair dryer, nice blueberry muffin and coffee for breakfast
gay red light bars across the street, rather simple breakfast, burn marks on furniture, noisy A/C
Location is perfect, very close to main streets and old part of the city. Great price, super friendly staff, cosy room, delicious muffins from a nearby bakery for a breakfast.
No kettle in the breakfast room, only a coffee machine: had to boil water for the tea in a microwave, lol. otherwise everything else was great!
