My room was so small, I actually turned around a few times thinking I had missed a hidden door. Alas, it was just really small...just enough room for a single bed and two side tables.
There was no window in the room either, which was disappointing. Travel shouldn't feel like jail. The air conditioner was in the window, and thankfully it worked as it was a hot weekend. However, it went on and off all night, and the incessant buzzing was hard to sleep through.
The bed was very bouncy, and probably could use an upgrade.
However, what upset me most was when I checked in and discovered that the Strathcona was charging me $169 for my room...instead of the $129 I had booked online! The Chinese woman at the counter rudely informed me that they didn't have to honour my online price, because I "didn't book it through their website." Sounds like a scam to me, and extremely unethical!
As a travel blogger, I will definitely be telling folks not to book with you. Sometimes the customer does get the last laugh. Do right by the customer always. Scamming them is not a good idea.
The location of the hotel is excellent, right across the street from the Royal York Hotel, but at a fraction of the price. However, if you are looking for luxury, this hotel is definitely no frills at all. However, the hotel is clean, and if you only care about where you are sleeping, you can't go wrong here.
The hotel was remarkably quiet also for being downtown. Great location and value!
