Score from 145 reviews Very good
All staff were most courteous, friendly & helpful. Ambiance. VIews from restaurant were wonderful.
Needed a small bar fridge in room. When compared to other hotels in the area, perhaps overpriced. But it was the ambiance we were going for!
Great value Superior location on English Bay. Block away from the Davie Street bus line. Old world charm We have stayed here on numerous occasions.
Free car park would be nice.
We liked the location near the ocean and also near downtown; the large comfortable room, the helpful staff at the check-in desk.
We had a grumpy waiter one time, but the next day our dining room staff were excellent.
holes in wall - rooms construction very run down. Furniture and comfort fine.
If your stay does not require a central downtown location, the Sylvia fills the bill for comfort in a wonderful ocean-side location, where you can actually open your window to hear the surf at night Magical!
Bedding did not smell clean
heating problems in many rooms, crowded underground parking lot, mediocre breakfast
food, service in both the bistro and dining room was great. And of course the wonderful views from every window downstairs; on this sunny, happy weekend!
I DID NOT GET the om type I booked months ago, through BOOKING.COM. i requestd a one bedroom, with kitchen, QUEEN suite. But on arrival, it turned out to be a KING bed.I Require Queen as I am disabled. King is too high to gret ino easily. Also VERY HARD to move around in bathroom and longer to walk to go to the bathroom, (from the further side). . I called the deak and was told "it is the last one"; so we had to stsy there or miss my brother's wedding! ON checkout, they told me I had been "upgraded" "to a King suite, but DID NOT TELL ME. i have aches and pains now, caused by this discomfort. IT IS NOT OK!
My room was cold, and the small electric heater not up to the task. But the staff kindly refunded my parking fees anyway as a courtesy. Besides that, I am a long-time fan of the Sylvia.
I liked the charm of the old hotel and the beautiful location. We enjoyed eating breakfast in the dining room looking out on English Bay and the proximity to Stanley Park. Also enjoyed having wine in the evening in the bar.
bathroom hair dryer was broken. Room kind of dated but it wasn't that important as we weren't in the room that much. I can't remember if we had a closet to hang up our clothes?
Grea location, great view.
If the weather is inclement or you have to stay in your room for any reason it is not as guest friendly as a more modern hotel would be. Couch, larger, more up to date tv, electrical system (outlets) are lacking.
The location was unbeatable. The hotel is old fashioned but comfortable. We would definitely choose to stay here again.
Location on English Bay close to Stanley Park within walking distance to several locations. Comfortable room, friendly staff
No fridge in room or gym facilities
Room was simple but clean. The location was fantastic in terms of view and walking on the beach.
Bathroom was oddly shpaed and cramped. No heater in the bathroom which was difficult on a November morning. Brrrr.
I love the fact that the hotel is on the bay and is so accessabel to Stanley Park I love to walk and enjoy the beach. The staff was most helpful and the meals in the dining room excellent. Hope to come back next spring.
The hotel has a stale odor about it and I think that is just part of it's age.
We have stayed at the Sylvia many times and it offers a location that is second to none in Vancouver. To be able to walk out the front door and be on English Bay is amaziing.
We had a great stay. No complaints.
Excellent location, friendly staff, comfortable accommodations, very quiet, fine restaurant. Historical building.
As a frequent visitor to Vancouver I have always wanted to stay at the historic Sylvia. Hotel. I was delighted by it's old world. Edwardian atmosphere. It is located across the street from English Bay and a very short walk to a four block fully equipped neighborhood of shops stores and restaurants. It has underground parking and wheelchair access, a nice dinning room and lounge for those rainy days in November. Good luck getting a reservation in the summer unless you book well in advance. !!
A lack of sourdough toast!
Great location. Very clean with good restaurant and lounge. Able to walk to Stanley Park. Good place to get a good nights sleep.
There was nothing I didn't like.
size of room, bed, clean, good service.
The hotel faces English Bay and is next to the seawall, which encircles Stanley Park. We walked around the park and it was beautiful. Excellent location. Walkable to almost everything. The room was large and quiet. The bed was great and the staff were very helpful with restaurant suggestions.
The breakfast was fine, but brunch was the same as the daily breakfast. We wished it had been a little more special.
I enjoyed the class of the hotel and it's original style. I especially like the fact that I could dine for dinner with entertainment. Also, all the guest needs are met with care.
Loved the location....loved how sound proof the room was...and how private my room was....staff very pleasant and friendly
That I only got to stay one night.....thought the price if your free range eggsa was outrageous....that was pretty much the only sore point I had....but on a positive note I was appreciative that that waitress let me know the price listed for free range eggs was in addition to the price of a regular egg before I purchased them.
For the cost very good for Vancouver - The hotel in areas is a little tired but you don't get the feeling of it being grubby. Very friendly & efficient reception staff
Staff in restaurant need to learn some customer service
Great location near Stanley Park. Comfortable room but small by today's standards.
The wifi could be better. Too expensive, should be cleaner and updated.
