We would have liked if the 100th. anniversary of the premesis had been recognised.

Location; friendliness of staff; windows that open so you can hear and smell the ocean; historic building. A hotel with a soul!

Common areas not really clean and in desperate need of upgrades - carpets in particular.

The ambience of the Sylvia. Its character never changes; friendly, unassuming and with wonderful views of English Bay. First stayed here in the late 1960s

Nothing to dislike

Loved the location, room and view and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Our room was quiet and bright and it felt like home. Bed really comfortable and hotel was very clean.

Bathroom was spacious enough but did not have fan. But is was very clean and eco-friendly.

The character of the building, the decor, the location, and the room were exactly what I was looking for. It was a very pleasant stay.

I really liked the location and the restaurant. Great food! The room had a fantastic view with a very comfortable bed. I did not even miss my own Bed!

It would be nice to have a small fridge in the room and a one cup coffee/tea machine.

Excellent location. Very pleasant and attentive staff.

Variable hot water- it kept going cold during the shower.

I love that the building hasn't been too "re-done" and lost it's charm. It's in a great location and has a great feel to it. The restaurant was also really good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Loved being able to open the windows and have the birds singing on the vines right outside!

That I couldn't take the stairs up, but I understand it's in the effort to ensure security.

The surprising amount of taxes... Should have been included in price quote.

The food was ok and the lounge

Phone in our room was broken -- tv changer did not work -- sink would not stayed plugged -- took a shower water was hot then turned cold instantly

Loved the atmosphere and the location .

Charming hotel. The location was perfect as we could park our car and get around Vancouver by foot, ferry, and bus. Walks in Stanley Park were delightful.

I like coffee early in the morning whether from a machine in my room or down in the lobby. I enjoy a morning newspaper delivered outside my door. And lastly, the soap was weird, mushy and slimey at once.

Old style comfort

What's not to like? This hotel. which is a Heritage site, is located across a quiet street from the park and waters of English Bay. The king size bed was extremely comfortable. Room was clean, large and comfortable. Staff was very friendly.

Great breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Pleasant ambiance. Good location next to the beautiful Stanley Park and waterfront.

Location, staff, price. We could walk to/through and around Stanley Park if we wanted to be out of doors and had easy walking/bus access to the downtown, Gas Town, Granville Island, China Town and all of the wonderful shopping and restaurants that the city offers. When we came back at night it was quiet and the beds were very comfortable.

It is a quaint hotel. The staff is very friendly and went out of their way to change our rooms so that we would have adjoining space. The views of the bay are spectacular. Best fish and chips I have had in years.

There are more room configuration options than are presented on Bookings. One should really call the Sylvia Hotel and look directly at their website to get a better understanding of what is available and their special offerings. Their are only two outlets per/room. There aren't any coffee makers in standard rooms.

Stayed there previously

The staff and food in the restaurant were excellent. Front desk staff and housekeeping staff were very friendly and helpful. The location couldn't have been better, being right beside the beach at English Bay. It was handy to Stanley Park, and other beach attractions. We had a lovely view of the harbour.

The rooms, while they are comfortable are showing their age, and are in need of some upgrading.

My daughter came back to the hotel late at night and no one answered and doorbell to let her in. This might have proved a danger to her. In the end she had to find a cab and return to where she had visited.
