Great location up at 3100M and away from the mess of tourists in Zermatt down below. Spacious rooms with Matterhorn view, in room kettle and lots of tea options. The view from the room and all around is fantastic. You will have the whole area free of tourists once the Gornergrat Bahn stops operation for the day.
At the price we pay, the cost of Gornergrat Bahn up top the hotel should be included.
Location, location, location. To enjoy sunset and sunrise view of Matterhorn, this is the only location which allows to do so as train does not run in late evening and early morning.
Everything is good.
Very nice Hotel. Staff excelent. Confortable room. Special thanks to Alex, very efficient, attentive and polite waiter. Gave us an amazing dinner! Be careful with the train schedule to get to the hotel! We suggest you stay at least one day in a Hotel in Zermatt, the city is wonderful and has many attractive!
Hotel and staff were really good :)
No places for skiing/skating nearby. You have to travel another 1 -2 hrs to reach Klein Matterhorn.
the view of matterhorn from the room window esp 5 AM in the morning to see sun rise
dinner serving take too long till i have to give up the dessert the waitress told me there is only 1 chef
It is always a gamble with the weather, but a gamble worth-taking.
Wonderful memory for our honeymoon trip.
location, getting up at dawn to see the sunrise on the Matterhorn is an experience that will always stay with me. Food its great, plentiful & delicious. Rooms modern & comfortable
Very hard to sleep comfortably at 3100m unless you are acclimatized
A unique location. And all you need on 3100m. Thank you for making this stunning place accessible to anyone!!!
Some ignorant people coming up there who don't understand that at 3100m above sea level the air is thin and dry, making breating more difficult. That's not a bad service of the hotel - that's nature!
Obviously - the view. Rooms are clean and functional. Alas, that's all. Also -bread is excellent.
I've travelled a lot, but I'm yet to see a hotel with an image so removed from the actuality. While it's a given, that it's high, cold and isolated in the evenings, not everyone understand that it means they'd not sleep well until they acclimate to the altitude (1- 3 weeks, depending). Everything is about presentation, E.G. the included dinners - the food is greasy and quite mediocre (except for breads), but served protractedly and with a lot of pretension. It's not very convenient even for skiing - the cable car to Hohtalli is closed (seemingly permanently), the breakfast is late, their dinner is very late (not to intrude on their daily business, it appears). Most of the place is taken by the shops selling overpriced kitsch. Avoid.
very good food and nice service
too warm duvets
Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Kudos to the cleaning staff for finding and reporting SF200 that I had misplaced. They need to be commended.
The room was modern and clean, the staff was polite and spoke English, the meals were fantastic and included in stay.
It was such a pain to get up there, especially when zermatt is so charming and it was a shame to be cut off from the town. If it's cloudy or snowing, there is no view. THe train is $40 chf each way to get up there.
The personnel did their best to accommodate to our family's dietary special needs (they even changed the oil in fryer for us). We enjoyed the solitude up at the mountain when the train wasn't running. Discover card to pay with at the slopes restaurant is a smart thing.
We thought we would be able to start the skiing before the lifts opened, so that we would be at the bottom when lifts open. This was not the case. The slopes were opened at 8:30 and breakfast wasn't served before eight (due to train timetable). The hotel's wi-fi was shared with everybody else at the restaurant = slow during the day Thursday night fondue dinner, with diners from Zermatt (in different dining rooms though) gave a bad aftertaste. The raw chicken was served mixed with the other meat. We got 5pcs of meat per person. Sauces and the dessert were not worth eating and our ordered wine was served after we had finished eating. There was no drying for ski-boots. Instead all water dropped from the bootshelf above into one of our boots. After all these negative comments I want to say that we really enjoyed ourselves at this hotel.
Amazing location, fantastic view on Matterhorn. Nice and professional Staff. Lean and Comfortable : perfect.
To bring your luggages down to Zermatt, costs 12 CHF per bag, through Gornergrat Bahn.
The extras like freshly prepared hot breakfast option & the kettle in the room. Overall relaxing feel of the place and friendly professional staff
The location, view and scenery is stunning and absolutely unique. Very good food, very friendly staff. They even organized birthday cake, flowers and table decoration for my birthday. Nice rooms, not big, but well enough. The dining room is beautiful and warm, the house also very nice renovated.
The ski-circus is starting early, so some noise from the trainstation, The big entry hall (skiresort restaurant) is not very nice, also the shops in the basement.
nice hotel, nice design and friendly staff. and delicious dinner
majority of guests are elderly couple. maybe not very suitable for young travelers. not much to do in the hotel.
Views obviously stunning
Lack of anything to do between everything shutting and opening again in winter. Addition of spa for example would make this a fantastic hotel
Location, feeling to be on the top of the world
We were missing some additional activities, provided by the hotel in the afternoon or in the evening.
The location and dining.
Location and views are out of this world as long as the weather is good. Rooms are modern, comfortable and spacious. Free Wi Fi. Excellent food, breakfast and evening meal included in cost. Cooked breafast if you want it. Ski Room. Library of excellent books on the Alps Seeing the sunrise and sunset
No facilities available after evening meal. So in affect you make your own entertainment. As in winter it is dark by 6pm so you can't really go for a walk. There is a large lounge with a TV but no one seems to use. No Bar. Shops all close around 4pm. You can take the train back in to Zermatt but the last train back up is 7:24pm. Evening Meal choice limited
Spectacular view of Matterhorn; once in a lifetime; friendly and cheerful staff; good meals; a place for ski and toboggan.
Runway closure is quite early in winter, not much to do in the night time
