The Hotel an der Aare is located in the former nurses’ home of the "Altes Spital" Solothurn (the old Solothurn hospital). It combines stylish, modern infrastructure and historic 18th century buildings.

This centrally-located little gem has 16 rooms, all of which offer views of the historic quarter of Solothurn and the Jura mountains.

Hotel guests can enjoy the sunset from the restaurant Aaregarten with an aperitif or a fine dinner. Later on, the lounge, with its vaulted ceiling, is available for a nightcap. A full breakfast is served in the small hall or in the roofed green courtyard. Course rooms at the Altes Spital are suitable for seminars, banquets and exhibitions. The cultural events organized by the Altes Spital and a rock-climbing room complete the wide range of offerings at the Hotel Aare.

Food & beverage

In the restaurant Aaregarten you will discover the old town of Solothurn from the other side of the river. In the sunny garden restaurant, which is directly located on the river Aare, you can relax with a drink as the sun goes down while your children play in the playground. Dishes from the Aaregarten kitchen harmoniously combine a wide variety of ingredients. Particular attention is given to the food presentation. The chef de cuisine attaches great importance to creative, seasonal cooking. The wine list in the restaurant Aaregarten features European products. The selection of wines reflects the skill of the wine-grower and the „terroir“ of the vineyard.

Area information

The baroque and traffic-free old town of Solothurn with its tourist attractions, restaurants and shops can be reached on foot from the Hotel an der Aare. Several cultural events, such as the Solothurn Film Festival, the Literature Festival, the Open Air Classical Music Festival and Health Days provide an attractive programme all year round. The nearby river and mountain landscape is regarded as one of the most beautiful recreation areas in Switzerland, inviting you to spend a few days in Solothurn.

Friendly, helpful staff and a price-value ratio that stacks up. The way the bathroom is built into the room does not leave too much to the imagination, so if privacy is your thing then this may not be your ideal place, but I imagine for most people travelling with a partner or indeed alone that doesn't really matter so much. Aufs wc gehen möchte man ja vielleicht wirklich allein und da bringt eine, zwar schöne, Türe die einen Spalt von ungefähr 5 cm hat gar nichts. Ich gehe davon aus, dass da der Einrichter überfordert war und der der das Gebäude abgenommen hat, das nicht beachtete. Die Farben im Haus sind sehr angenehm und machen gute Laune. Der Sanitärblock ist zwar perfekt ausgestattet, bietet aber für unseren Geschmack zuwenig Privatheit, auch - oder gerade! - für ein "altgedientes" Ehepaar. Il y a un minimum de personnel pour la partie hotel, mais c'est tout à faif sufisant. La proximité de l'Aar me plait beaucoup ainsi que la vue depuis l'hotel, sur le Weissenstein et les bâtiments qui se réflètent dans le fleuve; j'hésite à changer mon fond d'écran avec la photo que j'ai prise depuis la chambre 208.
