The Locarno-Ascona area deserves about 3 days to enjoy fully. The islands were affected by recent storms. 2 days didn’t had time for Golf and Monte Veritable , I chose Carnada. In Ascona you can do treasure hunt and kid receives a small toy bonus.AlexandruRomania - 8.0Scored 8.0

Very beautiful city, but tremendously expensive. The prices seem fairly typical for Switzerland, but can be a shock when coming from elsewhere. It is almost impossible to have a proper meal for less than 20Frs, and even a plate of French fries or a hot sandwich is like 7 or 8Frs.

Ascona is a wonderful place.
Ascona is a wonderful place. Nice waterfront and restaurants along the shore side. Very calm and beautiful. Many places to visit around. Boat ride along the river was fantastic. Mount Tamaro was very excellent. Thrilling sludge ride and rope rides were excellent. We went a for a trekking with Lama with children which was much enjoyed. The view from our hotel room was fantastic, the mountains, the lake, the buildings on the nearby shore, the outdoor restaurants opposite the hotel, the colour of everything told you that you were on holidays. We were there for the Swiss National Day celebration and the crowds then were terrific. The location of the hotel is fine being on the lake. It is only a 5 minute walk to the bus stop which takes you to Locarno and it's train station, which can take you anywhere. The hotel provides you with a free transport voucher for anywhere in the Canton. Also being on the lake you can take a ferry around the lake. We went as far as Stresa which is in northern Italy for lunch. The ferry is not free. We usually ate outdoors in the hotel restaurant but sometimes at other restaurants on the shore of the lake. An added bonus for us was that a pigeon was nesting in the flower pot attached to our balcony and she had a baby and in the week we were there we watched her feeding it, and sharing it's feeding with her mate. We could also see how quickly it grew with the development of it's pin feathers. There is nothing we would avoid.

We arrived late and did not have time to shop for food, so she gave our kids some of her cereal bars :) The property is located in a residential area, across the street from a park. It is very calm. You will need to drive (or public transit) to Locarno, but is close to the centre of Ascona and there are groceries a short drive away and easy access to other routes. The apartment was very clean and everything looks new. Our family of five was very comfortable there. We recommend!

You can find places to go out in Ascona, nearby Locarno, or you can take the car into Italy. We had a very good time and would come again.

The highway can be heart slightly and only with windows open: it was no problem for us to open the windows at night. It was only 15 minutes walking uphill from the Ascona promenade back to the hotel. Very friendly staff and easy parking. The breakfast was superb. We would recommend it to everyone!
