Friendly and helpful staff, especially on reception. Beautiful decor, particularly in the foyer and on the landings. Lovely big room with balcony and mountain view. Magnificent breakfast in a beautiful room.
Service in the bar didn't match up to the efficiency and friendliness found everywhere else. The bathroom was beautifully appointed but the large gap between wall and ceiling meant that there wasn't enough privacy. The bacon at breakfast was rather cold, although the egg was piping hot.
Very friendly staff! All was perfect!
was probably great 20 years ago. Felt a bit neglected / in need of renovation. Toilet didn't flush properly, not all light bulbs working in the room, breakfast was below expected standard
nice big room...big positive surprise
reception overwhelmed, too many departures to be managed by only one staff Reception not manned 24hrs. One needs to take along a bulcky key No proper coffee expresso available for breakfast...only out of these tastless machines
good standard know what to expect , have stayed there before
paid £20 per night more than friend who booked after me!
I wanted to stay at this hotel on 3rd May as it was the date that Sherlock Holmes stayed here (under the name of the Englischer Hof) before he grappled with his arch enemy at the Reichenbach Falls.
Disappointed that the hotel did nothing to celebrate this important date. Strange decor - a combination of period in some of the public areas and very modern in the room.
Everything was great - staff, food, location, ambience, facilities. I couldn't fault this - especially as it gets so busy when tour groups come in... When you enter, you are hit with the history and start looking for your own deer hunter hat... To have stayed in a piece of factual and fictional history on top of all of this is the icing on the cake. :-) I dont know how this has gotten poor ratings (maybe people were expecting Dubai instead).
