This is the first time I've ever written a review of a hotel, but unfortunately found the room unacceptable. We were on the same side as the trams, and although the windows were closed and the fan was on, the trams were so loud it was like the Woody Allen movie where he grows up under the Coney Island cyclone. Except that it wasn't funny.

Absolutely to expensive. Compairing Quality / Price, absolutely out of order! Sorry, but I booked a superior standard room, paying 218.50 CHF a night and getting a inferior standard room, small and without space, not including the parking too! At the end it costs me 240.50 CHF a night including the taxes. And i stayed locket in the parking because tha park I paid was not opening the parking door Please give a check to your positioning quality Price! Thank you very much

The hotel offered a free travel pass to use on the trams while staying there. They had a great french restaurant on site and if we dined there we were offered a discount for staying at the hotel. They also offered currency exchange which was handy.

The staff was accommodating. * Ironing facilities - is located in a stairwell going down stairs from the 6th floor opposite the lifts which is very inappropriate for a so called 4star hotel. Ironing board was the lenght of my formal long sleave shirt. * Star rating should be down graded, its had a small 19" TV in room and very outdated decor. * Over priced for its facilities and features. Would not rebook this hotel for business travellers. * Certainly not worth its 4star rating. * There are other 3.5 star hotels in Basel which are alot better than this hotel. * Most 4star hotel has free internet, not this hotel.

Tram line is in front of the hotel, quite useful to go to city center. Internet & parking is a little expensive...

Good breakfast. Tram stop near the front of hotel. Long and not very nice checkin. Wanted up-front payment for room and breakfast. Noisy room - tram and ventilation. Flashing lights all night on building opposite.

Room was clean and comfortable, everything worked well and the staff were helpful and friendly. We thought that the price of breakfast at 27 chf was too much, so did not eat in the hotel.

Good location and comfortable rooms Getting a bit old and it is showing. Breakfast should be included in the price, as should internet. The breakfast was very expensive, for what it was.

Location was great for what we were doing in Basel. Need to do something about the street noise. Trains/Cable Cars are very noisy and run until midnight.

Breakfast is really good I had a double room in La Residence. The room was really small and old fashion. The matras was really thin and when I woke up I had pain in my back. The garage was in another street but with the elevator you came out at the reception. The hotel is hardly reachable by car. The people at the reception could be more friendly (evening and night). Conclusion: for the price, I would advise another hotel.

Lovely, clean room with duvets on the very comfortable bed. Excellent shower, near to shopping and sightseeing. For the price and location, this hotel should have air-conditioning. We were awakened at around 3:30am by carousers leaving a local bar. Too hot to close the windows, but when they are closed, very little street noise gets in. If you plan to stay in this hotel, be sure you're on the non-street side of the building. Choose an AC'd hotel if staying between June and August.

We were greeted by a male receptionist who was very helpful and could answer all our questions - giving us information on the city and whereabouts. The room was fairly old-fashioned but clean and the beds very comfortable. The bathroom was also very clean and a very good size. There are several restaurants, bars and coffee houses close to the hotel and we found a great little pizza place for supper and a coffee house for breakfast, as travelling with children can be a little tricky with regards to food. We were only five minutes walk from the old town and the Rhein which is very beautiful and all the tram rides were included in the hotel booking. Would definitely stay there again.

Nice, friendly hotel in a good location close to the centre of Basel and directly on main tram routes in and out of the city. All of the staff were polite and spoke very good English. Internet access (Wi-Fi and Cable) is quite expensive. Also, the breakfast area gets very busy and fills up quickly.

Convenience The website said that an extra bed could be added to the room. However, upon check in the type of room wouldnt allow for the extra bed. Luckily the hotel had changed the room to accommodate the extra bed. Thankfully the hotel was pretty empty

Location for business and for accessing local transport. Rooms were too warm, pretty bog standard furnishings. It was clean enough though and the staff provided an extra bed for my 6 year old free of charge. The internet access was unpredictable and I was amazed I had to pay for it. Any other hotels I have stayed at recently provide free internet access. I would urge Mercure to catch up here, otherwise I feel I am being ripped off. I will not be staying at a Mercure hotel again because of this.

It was definitely too hot and dry in the room and no way to reduce the temperature. We tried to keep the window open but temperature did not reduce at all and the noise from outside was very annoying.
