When I opened the bathroom window in the morning many bees incoming. I was amazed awful.
mountain view from window. Staff(maybe owner's son) help us take the baggage to the 2nd floor directly. Very helpful information for meggen and lucerne.
The host of the house is a very kind old man, he may be the most nice during all of our hotels. We got loud noise from upstairs and he solved it very quickly and said sorry to us when we had breakfast next morning. Very good man.
The staff were terrific. Received a warm welcome- even a welcome drink. The breakfast was more than adequate. There was a great selection of breakfast items to choose from. Suzy the dog was soon friendly and always welcomed you. Rooms good size and the beds comfortable. Short drive or bus to Lucerne.
The guesthouse was a bit worn. To some people it added to the charm of the place, to others it may be a turn off. Personally, I liked it!
Perfect bed, good for your back. Very nice behaving staff.
An average hotel
Nothing was great in hotel
Beautiful home near the lake. Comfortable and very clean. Staff was super friendly and gave a lot of helpful information about the area. The breakfast was WONDERFUL! Hot croissants, cheeses, ham, eggs, and hot coffee were all delicious!
The hosts were lovely. The restaurant was closed when we arrived but they still cooked us an excellent meal. We felt we experienced good old Swiss culture.
There is a massive apartment block being built beside the hotel.
Opposite to bus stop, Great view from my room (room no 9), not to many option but a vary fresh prepared breakfast and a very kind and helpful owner
mosquitoes (I did get a kill spray which helped), no lift, everything old
It was a nice place to stay. Good view from some rooms. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The hosts were really nice, particularly when he gave us umbrellas outside when it started to rain.
Cool country location outside of Luzern, the proprietor and his wife could not have been nicer, made us an early breakfast to accommodate our last day of travel - a wonderful experience.
As someone who has traveled all around Europe with family, I have seen all kinds of accommodation. However, there are few hotels about which I could say, ‘I will stay there again, if I get the chance’. “Gasthaus zum Kreuz” has certainly earned its spot on this short list. Situated at about 5 kilometers away from the city of Lucerne, in the town of Meggen, the “Gasthaus” is run by a kind and welcoming family of both Swiss and Spanish origins. The owners were very nice and helped us with anything we wanted to know about both the city and the mountainous area that surrounds it. When it comes to the building itself, it is an old family house that does look worn-out for the sake of the antique appearance. Also, the guest rooms are at a higher level in the house and there is no elevator. Secondly, the parking lot is quite spacious, as we had no trouble finding a spot. The hotel also has a restaurant. They serve both lunch and dinner and the meals are tasty and well cooked. Moreover, the owners are always making sure that everyone is having a great time. The Wi-Fi was working quite well, even though we had to disconnect a couple times in order to make it work. We quite enjoyed our stay at “Gasthaus zum Kreuz” as both the antique aspect of the house and its familiarity make it feel like a fascinating place. I will certainly remember the warm welcoming given by the family’s dog, Suzy.
However, the breakfast was not so great. There is no buffet and everything is served at the table by one of the staff members. We encountered a quantity problem when the young woman that works as a waitress was in charge. There was not enough food for three persons. On the other hand, when the owner was in charge, the quantity was great.
Friendly reception by owners Very good breakfast
Watch out for speed control Lots of traffic works
Close to Luzern, location of the hotel was very good. We could bring our dog along. Beverages were cheap and the breakfast was very good. Very good mattresses! Hotel manager who made the breakfast, was striving to make our morning pleasant.
The hotel is more a pension with flair of the 50's. Four floors, no elevator. For what it offers, it is too expensive. Furniture is old, and the smelly family room is small. Everthing would be acceptable, if the rate was cheaper. Next time, we'll chose another hotel.
The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. It was super clean everywhere. The beds were very comfortable. Big room, we stayed in a room with our 2 teenage daughters.
The room and bathroom are outdated.
A picturesque location just 5 mins drive from the centre of Lucerne. Views from our room were amazing! Very friendly owner who gave us lots of information about the town. We stayed in a good size family room for 4 on our way to Italy.
There is building work going on across the road, (not that this is in anyway their fault!). This didn't really disturb us, but the workmen did start quite early!!
Nice hotel. Friendly staff. We had dinner in the hotel as well, awesome food!
Great ambience. Very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was delightful. We had a large family room for three and it was very spacious. It had a view of Lake Lucerne. It was easy to drive to Lucerne.
Building works across the road
Family run hotel.
facility too old. mosquitoes in room lead to a mosquito bite on my kid's face
The staff is very hospitable, and the breakfast is wonderful. What' s really impressive is the location where is very close to the lake.
Friendly staff nice breakfast
Very hot no aircon and on main road so could not leave windows open. No lift so had to carry bags up 4 floors. Very tired on the outside and surrounded by construction sites.
The staff is very friendly. We had a very good breakfast. We only arrived late due to delayed trains, the host was helpful and allowed us to check in late. 2min walk from the Meggen train station.
the whole hotel is a huge house. every piece of funiture feels home. the corridor window has a good view of the nearby lake. the breakfast is awesome!
the city/town of Meggen is a bit in the middle of nowhere and scaryingly quiet........so it is not really the fault of the hotel but it did discourage me
Comfy beds, quiet location, convenient restaurant downstairs, lovely breakfast room, friendly hosts accommodated our early departure by setting out breakfast for us, free parking, adorable dog greeter downstairs
no wifi in room, no privacy curtain in bathroom
Friendliness of owners; their dog; relative price (compared to other area hotels); free parking on premises; the fact that the building is old and has been in the family for 6 generations; self-serve beverage cooler in hallway.
While low cost for the Lucerne area, it was still expensive and not worth the price paid; tired, run down decor and room; non buffet breakfast (excessive wait time, even for a basic cup of coffee)
