Great location with a bus stop near front door with only one stop to First lift; friendly and helpful hosts and staff; we were offered an upgrade into a larger room; breakfast had excellent choices
the service was great and also the location.
Wonderful breakfast, dinner, restaurant, atmosphere and staff! Great!
Only distance to main station is the disadvantage. However, maybe the distance can filter noisy and beery people.
There's loads to like about this place - the warm, friendly welcome from the helpful, informative staff at reception, the peace and quiet of a swiss village as you enjoy your nightcap on the terrace gazing up into the star filled sky, the spotlessly clean room and bathroom, very comfy bed, the delicious, very copious buffet breakfast with beautiful views over the old village and mountains, the warm cellar where you can leave your ski equipment, the free carpark, the close proximity to Grindelwald's bars and restaurants if you fancy an evening out .. The Gletschergarten is a great place to stay and will certainly be our 'home from home' on our next visit to this alpine paradise!
It was a very relaxed environment and the building is lovely and we felt that Gabriela and Gary wanted us to enjoy ourselves.
The exchange rate changed whilst we were in Switzerland, out of any of our hands.

Owners worked the desk and dining room and are very VERY welcoming, service oriented and helpful. Both were eager to assist with any needs and had plenty of information on the area. Picked us up and dropped us off at train station. Fantastic customer service.
There was a terrible odor in the hallway on 1st floor and same odor in the TV/Business Center room on ground floor. Hotel a bit dated with poor lighting in the rooms and very small television. Was fine if you are out skiing or hiking all day and only in the hotel in the evening but wouldn't want to sit in hotel all day while others were out skiing. WIFI coverage was spotty.
We had a wonderful time staying at Hotel Gletschergarten over Christmas. The hospitality of the host family was impeccable. The rooms were comfortable, warm and well serviced. The lounge with the fireplace was so cosy and the perfect location for drinks and cards. The hotel offered wonderful dinners with a particular mention of Christmas Eve. The evening was perfect and the arrival of Santa was a nice touch. Lars and Mattias were excellent ski instructors for us over the four days skiing and were able to cater for our variety of abilities. The hotel had great wifi and was able to organise both our ski passes and train tickets during our stay. My wife requested Gluten free and it was absolutely not a problem. We would love to be back."
Fantastic heartwarming hospitality! Tasty dinner and breakfast. Crean rooms with beautiful mountain view. We enjoyed table tennis after skiing.
Nothing. It's a little far from the station but there is no problem, because nice atmosphere is more importamt rather than town view in Grindelwald. The owner transported us kindly and bus is convenient.
Beautfiul views from the hotel. We loved the church bells from across the street every morning and evening. Breakfast and dinner was excellent.
Hotel Gletschergarten was one of my favourite hotels I stayed in on our recent European holiday. It was charming to look at from both the outside and the inside. All of the staff are so friendly and helpful and wow can their chef cook! Initially we planned to eat out each night rather than eat at the hotel but after a long day of hiking on our second night we decided to be lazy and 'eat in' and wow- were we rewarded with a delicious 5 course meal and great wine selection for very good value! The hotel can help you book all your tickets and plan your daily agenda, they have a lift for luggage, they even have a wash room where you can self wash your clothing for a nominal fee to use the machine. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who was planning to visit the area. I don't think you would be dissapointed.
facilities need updating
Sep 2014 was our first trip to Switzerland & we are so happy with the eight nights we stayed at the Hotel Gletschergarten. Gerhard & Gabriela made us feel like welcomed guest in there home, which is exactly what we were looking for in a family-run hotel. You could not find a better family to host you. It is so obvious that Gerhard, Gabriela, & their son Mathias love what they are doing. It shows. We & they were always smiling & joking. It was a pleasure to stay here. Their knowledge, friendliness, sense of humor, obvious desire to make every guest welcome was so enjoyable. They were so much more help than guide books. They recommended great things to do, when to & where to get the bus/train, etc. Suffice it to say that we absolutely loved them. Thank you Gerhard & Gabriela for making everything perfect, & for sharing your lovely family with us. We look forward to returning.
Welcoming family business A bit removed from the busy center of town views church bells
What can I say, we really felt at home. The owners are very nice they make you feel at home. The room is very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic and the hotel location is excellent.
We loved this chalet type hotel. The family were just lovely. There was a bit of a mix up with our room, but they did everything they could to make up for it. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We had a large balcony looking up to the Eiger. We ate at the hotel both nights of our stay and the food was excellent, and reasonably priced for Switzerland! Breakfast was also good.
Warm touch of family operation, delicious breakfast, great view from the big patio of the room I had. The half board dinner was also very good.
The fact we needed to leave for the next distination.
The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We arrived after the kitchen was officially closed but they still fed us a full-course dinner which was delicious. Also the mountain views from our rooms were spectacular.
The rooms were small and dated.
The hotel is a small family owned business. The owners are very friendly and gave good advise about things to do. We ate several meals at the hotel which served local produce excellently prepared.
lodging is quite expensive everywhere in Switzerland
Host, facilities, room,food
From the moment we arrived and were collected from the train station nothing was too much trouble. The hosts are fantastic and go out of their way to help you and give advice of things to do, they even sell the excursion tickets and stamps at the Hotel. Breakfast and Dinner was fantastic, food was great and they even catered for me as I didn't eat what was on the menu. We left very early and they arranged a taxi for us but were ready to help with a ride if it did not arrive, would definitely recommend this hotel to,people.
Nothing that we didn't like.
Everything This is our second stay here and both have been excellent. Grindelwald is a wonderful place and Gletschergarten makes it even better. We recommend the Hotel Gletschergarten enthusiastically
Owners made you very welcome and were very helpful in suggestions of daily activities.
Wifi did not work in room but was ok in lounge/ bar / dining areas.
lovely hotel, wonderful staff, family owners were very helpful, nice ambience in dining room and delicious meals
