Loved that we were within walking distance to all of Montreux, especially being so close to the lake. The breakfasts were lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly, despite our appalling attempts at speaking French, which they took with good grace! Like so many others have said, if you plan to stay here, you should be aware that a train line runs right behind almost all of the lake front hotels including the Golf Hotel. If you can, ask for a lake view room or a partial lake view room (which we had). Costs a bit extra, but reduces the noise somewhat. Oh, and the bathroom is pretty small too. Clean, everything you could want is in there, it's just very small.

View of Mountains The standard room which I did not know when booking from the usa was not the lake view but the railraod view which is annoying throughout the night plus road noise. Hoteal staff except for a Vietnamese receptionist seem to be disinterested.. Poor choices for buffet breakfast. No English channels on tv except bbc/cnn

The hotel is situated on the promenade along Lac Lemat at one end of Montreux so the rooms facing the lake have no car traffic but a direct view of Lac Lemat and lush landscaping. The castle of Chillon is visible from some of the rooms and is walking distance from the hotel. Our room had a balcony to enjoy the spectacular scenery of this lake and surroundings. The staff was cordial and spoke many languages. We were given a" Montreux Riviera" card upon check-in which gives you access to public transportation within the city for free and discounts to various activities--for example 50% discount on admission to the castle. Room was clean and ready early. Breakfast was lovely buffet and served in the grand dining room overlooking the lake. We booked ahead for parking which we strongly recommend that one does so. Also we were able to extend our stay one night and the hotel honored the online pricing. Overall a very pleasant stay in a lovely lakeside town. The hotel needs some light refurbishing--ceiling in our room needed to be painted , our balcony furniture was inexpensive plastic white table and 2 chairs that have seen better days. There was no air conditioning and we happened to arrive on quite a warm day with a little humidity; we slept with the balcony doors open but since there was no breeze it was a little uncomfortable to sleep. The hotel should have a swimming pool for those who do not want to swim in the lake.

Very comfy bed, lovely room with lake view, very warm, old chateaux feel. Staff very friendly, easily walkable to town centre, promanade, Castle Chinon, easy rail links and tourist trails with visitor pass. Excellent evening meal also and nice breakfast. Limited parking best to try and reserve.

Very nice and clean rooms, clean toilets, nice lobby and beautiful lake view. The staff is vey kind and friendly tying to fulfil wishes of guest. The location of the hotel is close to railroad so that very noisy frequent trains very often disturb guests, particularly during the night. Rooms facing the lake side are better in that sense, but they are much more expensive. The hotel staff this time was kind enough to offer us a standard room facing the lake at the convenient price.

It's my second time here. I chose this hotel because it's strategically positionned for my business and has a good relationship quality/price. This time I booked a single room but I was upgraded on a good double room with balcony and lake view. The only thing you could be "afraid" of is that many rooms are in the basement, but then I saw it had a nice balcony, so everything's ok. The hotel is 10 min walk from Montreux city centre, if needed bus stop just in front ! parking available in front of the hotel (free from 7pm to 7am). -Lights in the corridor (basement) with sensor is switching on/off too much quickly. Already told to the reception -breakfast is very good, I would only add a choice of vegetables

Staff were really friendly and helpful. They were very happy to speak English with me which I really appreciated. Room was lovely. Breakfast was great. Great location. It was noisy at night time. I don't know what the noise was - sounded like I was next to the elevator and could hear it going up and down throughout the night. Weird thing was my room wasn't anywhere near the elevator, so don't know where the noise was coming from. It was a annoying to listen to.

Rooms were lovely and clean. Breakfast is a wonderful spread of pastries, fresh fruit, cereals, eggs, bacon , breads ,rolls, cold meats and yogurts. View from the hotel's terrace is simply stunning. Gorgeous lake and mountain views. The fact that they can't guarantee a lake view room. They say it depends on availability when you arrive. Lower ground floor rooms are very stuffy with a mouldy, damp smell. Non lake viwe rooms are very noisy due to the passing trains.

The style and quality of the Golf Hotel Rene Cap belong to another era. This Swiss hotel in the prime position in Montreux looks out on Lake Leman and the Alps. The view, the high ceilings and the decor are each enough of an enticement to take one into a feeling of being in an alternative dimension. Simply the best hotel experience we have ever had. The opportunity to stay there and reservation, made at the last minute after deciding against a potential for lost holiday time in a bad position in the city, was made possible by Bookings dot com.

I had heard that rooms on the train side of the hotel were noisy and dark, so I requested a lakeside room. However, I was informed that the standard 3 person room was not available as a lakeside room, but they did give me a room on the side of the hotel where you could still see the lake. It was not directly facing the lake, but it wasn't on the train side and was still quite lovely. It was quiet and bright. The terrace of the hotel is very nice and is right on the lake. The garden is beautiful and the included breakfast is served in a great, airy room looking out on the lake. The breakfast was very nice. The front desk's recommendations for dinner weren't that great.

My two grown daughters and I booked a deluxe triple room and stayed 3 nights. It was very clean and spacious, as was the bathroom. Our room had a small balcony that looked out on Lake Geneva. The hotel staff was extremely helpful. The breakfast buffet offered many choices and was very nice. Due to arrival timing, we also had dinner at the hotel. The food and service was very good but I thought the prices were higher than they needed to be, even giving it was a hotel dining room (outside terrace, actually - the dining room was closing) The hotel location is fabulous - directly on the Lake, & only a few bus stops from Chateau Chillon, the train station, & shopping & restuarants. We received a "Montreux Riviera" card upon check-in, which allowed us to use the local bus system. It was a lovely hotel I would return to, if in the area again.

We booked a triple room (without lake view) and when we checked in were given a double room (with a cot made up) but with a beautiful Lake Geneva view/balcony for the same price. The lake view definately made up for the smaller room. The toiletries were really skimpy, one very small bar of soap, shower gel in bath and a shower cap. So, you might want to bring your own.The hotel was clean and seemed to be freshly painted and decorated . Wonderful breakfast included and very helpful bi-ligual front desk staff. I would stay here again and recommend it to friends.
