Grand Hotel National LuzernHaldenstrasse 4, 6006 Lucerne (Show map) Excellent, Score from 118 reviews“Loved the location and the staff.”
Michele,
Pleasanton
The luxurious Grand Hotel National is situated right on the shore of Lake Lucerne, only a 5 minute walk from the train station and the historic quarter. Lucerne's legendary luxury hotel was built in the 1870s by César Ritz and Auguste Escoffier. Today it still provides highest-quality accommodations, culinary perfection and great musical entertainment in the National Bar. The rooms and suites offer views of the city or the lake. Some include Italian marble floors, walls covered with luxurious silk wallpaper, hand-woven carpets and comfortable sofas and chairs upholstered with the finest materials. From the Grand Hotel National Luzern you can see the famous Rigi, Stanserhorn and Pilatus mountains as well as the highest peaks of central Switzerland. Hotel Rooms: 41

The Welcome Drink (Prosecco or juice) was a lovely touch, and just what we needed! The location was perfect, looking out over the lake to the snow-capped mountains in the distance. Chopard toiletries in the bathroom were just beautiful, especially the velvet roll containing all the little extras. Rooms were much larger than we expected, and were serviced twice daily. As we were on our honeymoon, we were given a fruit basket and gold flecked champagne, which made us feel very special. The Sunday brunch is huge, and at 59 Euros, fantastic value! Staff were welcoming, and Christoph at the front desk was fabulous - he recommended Fritschi restaurant, which provided one of the most superb meals we have ever had, in a 1602 building which oozed character. A wonderful stay! Try to avoid a low floor if possible - the bar outside is very close and very noisy, until around 11pm. Difficult to know what the hotel could do to fix this, really.

They upgraded us to a Jr. Suite that faced Lake Lucerne. Needless to say the view was outstanding. They guided us to our room and showed us the features. It had a welcoming gift platter with fruit. It was a spacious room and well appointed. The reception staff were great and very helpful with our many questions. The location is a 10 minute walk across the bridge from the train station.

The location was excellent and the staff went above and beyond their roles. There was always, some lovely delicacy waiting on our table and every night the bed was turned down and a chocolate left on the pillow. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Great Location, 10 minute walk from train station and directly overlooking the lake and mountains. Friendly English speaking staff and luxurious rooms. Pricey but worth it. We upgraded to Lake View and these proved worth the extra expense.

Position by lake, quietness, very nice room, excellent breakfast, cordial staff. Piano in bar too loud for atmosphere and talking. We love the piano but it was too loud, perhaps an upright piano and no speakers would be better. Shower did not work as it should-it ran hot and cold, needs adjustment.

Beautifully appointed rooms and views of the lake. No spa. They indicate they have one, but it is only a pool, a tanning bed and one part-time attendant that will give you a massage, when he is not busy. The massage room is like a converted closet. For this grand hotel to call that a spa is completely false advertising. We ended up going to the hotel next door that had a real spa and will probably stay at that hotel next time. Also, the hotel was basically deserted with very few, if any other guests. However, we we asked in advance to have the courtesy vehicle that was constantly parked in front to drop us off at the train station( 5 minute drive at the most), we were told no.

The hotel was rated as a 5 star, and my decision was based on it. To my experience, it is a luxury 3 star hotel. Yet, it was a dilemma when we checked-in; the room is absolutely terrible, and does not worth what we have paid for. It was old, small, and most importantly the bathroom sewage pluming was disgusting when you bathe or use the sink, it quickly fills up. However, the hotel manager the next day offered a discount of 10% and a free breakfast when we filed a complaint at the front desk, which all worth about chf 100. To me it does not make justice for what I have paid for and the time I wasted booking this accommodation.

Service great, upgraded us when we arrived early and our room was not available. Room beautiful. Ate at the Italian restaurant, while expensive food was excellent. There was a festival going on down the quai and people from the event congreagated for an all night conversation under our room.

The staff service was excellent. I had organized a European Vacation for a group of eight and the staff at the Grand Hotel were of great assistance. There was a problem with the Internet. It is imperative that service be readily available at all times for business.

“Good location-across from the train station and the lake with its ferries and the bridges that take you into the old city. We had asked for a quiet room facing a side street which we did receive. The room was very large, sitting area with a pullout couch, large desk, big bathroom and clean. Comfortable beds. Breakfast buffet was fine. Room had no air conditioning but we had a portable fan which was adequate.” Louis, Oyster Bay |
