Best Western Hotel Merian am Rhein  

Really nice hotel. Front desk staff were excellent in all ways! Rooms nice and big and if you get a riverview room the view really is beautiful! Even though some furniture looked old it was well renovated and everything worked. There is a Nespresso machine in every room - very nice touch The alcohol free mini bar is also free of charge. Breakfast was also good with good choice however see below for a little minus:

Breakfast at weekends! Too little staff and too slow refilling. Both days we had to find our own cutlery etc. and didn't get offered any coffee etc. The staff looked really steressed out and as a result of this the breakfast wasn't a pleasant experience at all.

A first class hotel, ideally situated for the city. Staff were very helpful. The room was large and very comfortable. I would definetly go back.

Great location and the local public transport pass for the duration of my stay was a delightful surprise. Very nice room for a single person and very good breakfast service.

I had a lot of luggage, some quite heavy. Carrying them up and down the front stairs was quite difficult. It would have been good if the lifts could access the street level for easier moving of luggage to / from taxi.

The hotel gave us free tickets for the Basel's transport system. Minibar drinks were free. Location is spot on!

No free wifi internet on the rooms (although a wired connection was available) which was a problem if you travel only with a tablet or smart phone. Room was too small for two people and the rooms facing the main street (and not the river) are a bit noise.

I't needed to be aware that the hotel is it on the border to quiet red light area.

It was good window view for the city. It is also American hotel and it is sophisticated for people's need. Nice location. The room was little bit small, but I guess that it is O.K. for business trip.

Fabulous view over the Rhein, excellent location central to many things

The view across the Rhine to the old city of Basel. Conveninet public transport inclusive ticket.

The room was small, but quite comfortable, and very clean and tidy. Moreover the view was superb. The parking service was efficient. The kindness of the staff was appreciated and so was the presence of a restaurant belonging to the Goldener Fisch Association.

However, the prices of the restaurant were too high, if compared to the quality of food and service.

Price

Excellent location for old town and shopping - walking distance to old town. Trams run right past the hotel if feeling lazy. We had a room view over Rheinn facing old town as requested. Breakfast was of a reasonable/good standard for price.

No complaints but didn't use the restaurant in the evenings as priced too high.
