Incredibly friendly and helpful staff

No airconditioning in the rooms meant it was hot at night unless u opened re winter onto the noisy main road. Having said that, air conditioning was being installed the week after we were there so the issue should be resolved.

The location of the hotel is at the junction of three main very busy streets. Trams, buses and truck noises coupled with ambulance sirens as the hospital is close by. The noise is unbearable and we could not sleep every night. Hd to close all windows including toilet window to cut off the noise. Had to shorten our stay at the hotel. Our room in fact is the best one which is further away from the street. Parquet floor does not help with the room noise from above the floor.

Our standard double room was both spacious and quite comfortable and the extra touches of bathrobes and slippers were very welcoming. The location was perfect for all the activities we wanted to do during our short stay. Since all the available hotel parking spots were full, the staff were extremely helpful in giving us tips on locating parking (free in certain areas on the street or by pay in the City Parkhaus a short distance away) and how to get to various attractions. The Basel Mobility Card, which allowed us to travel around the city by bus or tram free of charge, was an added bonus. We also enjoyed the hotel breakfast, which was varied and filling.

The wall between the bathroom and the sleeping area had a large window in it which flooded the sleeping area with light if you had to get up in the middle of the night. The room itself was quite warm, so we had to open the windows overnight and being on the main road, it made the room noisy.

This is the second review of my recent stay at Hotel Spalentor. If I could figure out how to edit my previous comment I would do that instead of writing a second. As noted on my prior review a staff member did not live up to the hotels standards in several ways. In addition to my Booking.com review i also wrote to the hotel last night. I got a telephone call from them this morning apologizing effusively for the problems and offering to either give me a free stay on my next trip to Basel, or refund the money from this trip. They did not ask that I modify my Booking review or anything else. This is a hotel that clearly cares a great deal about its reputation and listens to what its patrons have to say. I have never before had a hotel respond either this quickly or in such a client friendly manor to a complaint. I will most definitely keep them on my list as the place to stay on any trips to Basel. And the breakfasts are still delicious.

In light of food cost in Basel, the breakfast is a real bargain --- and delicious. Most staff was great with the exception noted to the right.

A young man at the desk did not set up a wakeup call, did not check on laundromat services, and did not send for a taxi as requested and as he said he would. If I did not set my own alarm and was not familiar with the bus service I would have missed my flight. As it was, it was a close call.

The staff is excellent and very helpful. Rooms are clean and of good size. The beds are confortable and large. Bathroom spotlessly clean and a lovely shower. location great. Easy to get to from the airpor. bus nr 50 from the aiorport than walk across the road from the station to catch nr 30 . 3 stops and you are at Spalantor. Breakfast very nice and there are fruit and drinks available in reception all day.

rooms can get quite hot and stuffy, but a minor issue, as there are a room coolerfan.

Good sized bedroom and bathroom. Very clean. TV, DVD player, Wi Fi, Mini Bar, Safe in room. Comfortable large bed. Quiet location but near to excellent transport system. Staff at reception could not be more helpful.

Staff were helpful and the room was very comfortable. The location by the University was perfect for exploring the city. The free travel pass is a really good idea.

Small reception area meant that there was no privacy when booking in. Also the breakfast room was very small, so felt pressurised to give up tables as people were queuing.

The staff was outstanding. They were friendly and knowledgable. The room was lovely and large. The location was perfect, a quick 5 minute walk to the lovely old town and shopping. The price was an excellent value for Switzerland.

There was no soap near the sink, but I think this may have been an oversight.

This is my hotel of choice when I travel to Basel. It is super clean and the staff are kind and genuine. They are great at helping me navigate my way around the city. This past trip, I thought I lost my blackberry and they checked my room for me. I would not have that level of trust with another hotel. They found it in my room and immediately emailed me. Love this place.
