Hotel Spalentor  

Everything was perfect with our stay at Hotel Spalentor. The staff were very firendly nad helpful; the room was large, light and clean; the breakfast was of high quality; the leisure room/gym was good. What made this hotel stay extra special was the little extras - the glass of orange juice/coffee when you arrived, teh free DVDs to watch in the evening and for us the chocolate Easter bunny left in our room as we stayed over the Easter weekend.

Check that you have been given 2 duvets - we were not and the staff had gone home at 9pm so i was very cold all night which made for a very uncomfortable night. Hotel has main roads on both sides - ok for winter but could be loud in summer

The room was quite larger for European standards and very clean and nicely appointed. It had a light, airy feel. The breakfast room was lovely with pretty views and quick service-our coffees were waiting for us on the table when we returned from the food line.

No parking but it encourages walking and use of public transportation which is extremely convenient. The room was warm because it was warm outside. We thought a ceiling fan would have been the perfect solution. In the morning, we found an upright fan tucked next to the closet. Oh well!

We loved the room at the top floor and the curtesy at the reception. The location was very convenient for leisure and business. We will recommend the hotel to friends and use as reference for future trips to Basel

Very good hotel, 10 min walk down to center, free transportation ticket during stay, very good breakfast, nice personnel, big rooms, good beds, playroom for kids and fitness for all.

Excellent helpful staff, a nice friendly feeling about the hotel. Great to have free WiFi, and a nice bar with outside garden area.

As it was very warm weather, a fan in the room would have been nice.

I was absolutely enchanted by this hotel! It felt very cosy - almost as nice as being in my own home! The room was huge and extremely clean with a nice view of the university library and the entrance to the botanical garden (always worth a visit). The location is fantastic - the whole area around Spalentor is very old (buildings that go back to the 11th century) and interesting and the Petersplatz just in front of the university is great fun on a Saturday with the bustle of the weekly second-hand market taking place under chestnut and Linden trees. I loved the little details - for example the ipod/iphone hi-fi next to my bed, which meant that I could listen to my own music on my iphone. The breakfast room is very cute and the buffet was superb! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful - rushing up to ask me what I would like to drink before I even sat down! I really did not want to leave! I will certainly recommend this place to everyone I know and I will definitely go back again myself. The hotel is very good value for money!
