Nothing to complain about as we had a lovely stay here but it may help you to know that as with most European hotels, tea & coffee facilities were not available in the room. If like us you opt for B&B then wish to dine in the hotel, dinner has to be booked by noon and is served early; so bear this in mind if arriving late (you will need to eat en-route!). Some traffic noise as hotel is beside the village main road but this is a relatively quiet Swiss mountain village not like a busy UK town street! The train track runs behind the hotel so we occasionally heard a train but it does not run through night. Swiss trains are not cheap but are reliable and regular; e.g. adult return was 60 CHF/£40'ish from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheideg or 180 CHF/£126'ish to "Top of Europe" per adult but the mountain panorama view was well worth it.
The hotel is beautiful from the outside with blue shutters, Swiss wood chalet style and has bedrooms with a clear view of the North Face of the Eiger and it was worth paying the extra for this option. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and multi-lingual. Maps, train tickets, forex, coins for parking meters, postcards and all served with a smile. Good shower & plenty of hot water, comfy beds & clean, fresh linen. English TV channels available; warm, bright, airy bedroom & chairs on the balcony to admire the mountains. Breakfast self-service & simple continental style; not a vast range but healthy, fresh & 'all-you-can-eat'. Stunning view from the Breakfast Room too. . The Coop is a 10 minute stroll up a gentle hill, open early til 7pm, fully stocked and reasonable prices. We hired a car from Geneva (free parking at the hotel) but the local train station is nearby. Free local buses between various ski centres. We were also grateful to the Inghams rep Ian (whose guests stay at this hotel) who put us in touch with a local horse sleigh ride; it was so lovely trotting in the country lanes with sleigh bells jingling in the foothills of the Eiger. Nearby villages' shops, close for lunch 12 to 1.30pm; parking meters vary & need 1 CHF coins (available from hotel reception). We would definitely recommend this hotel to friends & family, skiers or non skiers.
