Napoleon, Casanova, Kissinger and Carreras - they have all enjoyed the unforgettable experience of the Krone. The 2nd oldest hotel in Switzerland (1418), is situated on the most prominent square at the heart of the old town. The 42 rooms of this 4-star luxury hotel are maintained in authentic Louis XV or Biedermeier style but equipped with modern amenities. Every room has its own individual character and offers a breathtaking view over Solothurn's picturesque lanes and the impressive Cathedral.
If you are reading this, you have something in common with Napoleon Bonaparte, Giacomo Casanova, Sophia Loren and Henry Kissinger – a visit to the Hotel Krone in Solothurn. That is naturally no coincidence. In the past, it was the secure routes of travel, passing by one of the oldest hotels in Switzerland, that brought our guests to us. Today, it is our unique atmosphere and impressive quality, which are much appreciated by our regular guests and draw them back again and again.
A visit to the Hotel Krone is a rewarding experience. Referred to as an inn as early as 1418, the Hotel Krone was completely rebuilt in 1772 in the early classical style, and since then it has maintained its position in one of the most attractive and complete ensembles of baroque architecture to be found in all of Europe. This is a place where history has been made and is still being made, as evidenced by the antiques you will find in the Hotel Krone wherever you turn.
Naturally, our hotel is distinguished not only by tradition, but also by its «living» qualities. In addition to the highest possible level of comfort and courteous service, we cultivate an outstanding cuisine. Our kitchen offers everything from small, delicate snacks to stately gala dinners. Our specialities, our fresh seasonal cuisine and our carefully selected wine cellar have been praised by renowned gourmets and well-known personalities from around the world.
It is our desire that you be fully satisfied with your stay at the Hotel Krone, which is why we give serious attention to your every wish. Please take us at our word!

The Events.
The Krone is a crowning point for any glamorous banquet.
Celebrate your parties here, and follow in the footsteps of emperors and kings, famous statesmen, stars from opera, film, television, culture and literature, economic moguls and high society.
Our various rooms offer the right choice for festivities or for company functions, for lavish balls or enchanting weddings that will remain engraved on your guests’ memory.
For example, the banqueting hall for up to 200 guests or the “Leist”, a guest room which radiates the rustic atmosphere of an epoch in which the mode of transport was still the horse and carriage.
The Seminars and meetings.
Seminars and meetings are crowned with success at the Krone.
Why not hold your seminars and meetings in the Krone? After all, the Krone has always been a venue at which decisions were taken – decisions of a lasting nature that have even had an international impact. As the second oldest hotel in Switzerland, the Krone stands for consistency: the ideal pre-requisite for successful and memorable seminars.
In the restaurants and banquet halls of the Krone, discerning gourmets have long enjoyed sophisticated, seasonal food with elegant service in a regal atmosphere.
The Ambassadorenstube.
This gourmet restaurant allows up to 36 discerning connoisseurs to enjoy sophisticated Mediterranean cuisine served with elegance in a regal atmosphere. Nobility, famous statesmen, stars from opera, film, television, culture and literature, economic moguls and discerning gourmets have always enjoyed being pampered in the Ambassador Room.
The Kronengarten.
In the centre of the town of Solothurn and against a backdrop steeped in history lies one of Switzerland’s 10 most beautiful gourmet restaurants (GaultMillau Guide).
The hidden treasure is called «Kronengarten», and can be found on the terrace of the baroque garden in the picturesque inner courtyard of the Hotel Krone. Here up to 40 gourmets can dine al fresco by candlelight and enjoy a Mediterranean atmosphere whilst partaking of sophisticated Mediterranean cooking with elegant service. The menu features four entrées, starters, main courses and desserts and one purely vegetarian dish is offered per course. The cooking is “à la minute”, using only the freshest and best ingredients of the season. Included in the price is the unique atmosphere of the terrace in this rear courtyard: the view of the enchanting baroque garden and of the imposing chancel of the Jesuit church is simply breathtaking. The gentle splashing of the ornamental fountain and the song of the birds are balsam for the senses. And with a little luck, guests will be able to listen to the song of one of the choirs during their rehearsals in the Jesuit church.
The Stadtrestaurant.
Our stylishly furnished restaurant provides room for up to 80 people to enjoy seasonal home cooking fresh from the market at moderate prices.
The Boulevardcafé.
When in spring the first rays of the sun touch the magnificent steps leading up to the St Ursen Cathedral, the Boulevardcafé in front of the Hotel Krone also awakes from its winter's hibernation. The Kronenplatz provides the necessary mise-en-scène and the café the choice of culinary delights: elegant à la carte dishes or tasty bistro snacks, gelati from the ice cream stand, espresso or latte macchiato, a glass of Prosecco or a cool beer... See and be seen is the order of the day, and the steady flow of people up and down this alleyway at all hours provides a permanent topic of conversation.
The Kronenbar.
The Kronenbar is the most traditional bar in Solothurn. The motto here has always been: «A beautiful evening begins with an aperitif in the Kronenbar. And the most beautiful evenings can also be brought to a close with a nightcap in the Kronenbar».
In our hotel, we aim to contradict the prejudicial view that all hotel rooms must look the same. Whether Louis XV or Biedermeier – each room in the Krone has its own character and welcomes our guests with an atmosphere steeped in history while offering the highest standard of comfort. Beautifully curved chairs at marquetry tables, antique bedsteads, clocks and wall decorations inspire guests to dream of times long since past when Casanova gave his all. This nostalgia is subtly combined with the latest modern conveniences. All rooms are furnished with bath or shower, direct-dial telephone, radio/TV, mini bar and cosmetic bar, hairdryer and safe. The rooms are situated on the top two floors, can be easily accessed by lift and offer a magnificent view of Solothurn’s picturesque alleyways and the impressive St Ursen Cathedral.
It has been described as the most beautiful baroque town in Switzerland, and is often also referred to as the «ambassador town» because it is characterised by the architecture of former royal French ambassadors (1530 to 1792). Solothurn combines Italian grandeur with French charm and local Swiss-German natural flair.
