The Landgasthaus Löwen is a friendly hotel with an excellent cuisine, bright rooms and rural charm in the small town of Elgg, in the canton of Zurich.

The kitchen team prepares traditional dishes of the Spanish cuisine as well as dishes from grandmother’s cookbook (restaurant closed on Mondays and Sundays).

Elgg is located in a scenic landscape between Winterthur and Wil. Sights include the historic Elgg Castle and the romantic small town itself. The train station of Elgg is about 1.5 km from the hotel (a 15-minute walk).

James Mature couple Potomac, Switzerland November 11, 2011	This is the place we use for an overnight stay when leaving Zurich by air the next morning: it is 35 minutes from the airport on AutoRoute 1. the rooms are simple but comfortable; our room could have used one more light, and a hair-dryer [but we didn't ask the desk for one, since my wife didn't need one] the main reason to come here is the chef Angelo Moroni--a famous chef who has worked at the Kulm, Savoy, and major restaurants in Spain. Fish and Spanish dishes are highlighted, but there is excellent country food as well--we just had a superb kalbshaxen. the dinners are expensive, but fairly priced, with an excellent wine selection. Restaurant was also very good - other reviews have called it expensive, but having looked at other menus in town, they charge the market rate. Wi-Fi signal in the room was very good. Overpriced. The rooms are out-dated and very poorly lit. You have to pay for parking in front of the hotel. The breakfast was sufficient for me, but there is no choice of breakfast and at chf15, it is very expensive for what you get. This place is a great restaurant, but a poor hotel. James Mature couple Morcote, Switzerland September 2, 2011	this was for an overnight stay with dinner, with an early flight from Zurich the next day. we booked a nice modern room for CHF 130 double; it is less than 1/2 hour from the airport, and the biggest bonus is a fine chef and staff. Angelo Meloni has worked at the Kulm, London Savoy, Paris Ritz, and many years in Spain. He offers some fine Spanish specialties and wine, but also the "gasthaus" specialties. the area is rural and quiet, formerly the center in Switzerland for horses and training, the town Elgg. The food is not cheap, but still good value. you might want to have a room in the back off the street, since there was some street noise. also not sure of how hot/cool it could be in very hot weather: we stayed the night of August 29 and it was very cool. we did not pay the hotel for parking, which is easily available close by.
