Weissbad Lodge is a lovely place, casual, with reduced service but excellent very modern and comfortable rooms just adjacent to the Weissbad train station and not far from the town of Appenzell and the the Ebenalp and Hoher Kasten cable cars. It is a lovely tranquil area to spend a few days. Especially innovative is the breakfast delivered in a paper bag to your door in the morning and the Generosity Wall which has a coffee machine, a snack machine, a microwave , utensils etc. to make your stay more pleasant. The main Hof Weissbad hotel is nearby and available for for first class restaurant meals as is the really fine Alpenhof family restaurant just across the small river that runs by the lodge. It should be noted that the Appenzell Card is a terrific free offer for guests who stay three nights in the canton: it includes train travel from anywhere in Switzerland, free local public transport entrance to a number of museums and other attractions as well as cable car rides. Really a special deal.

We visited the Äscher Wildkirchli, mountain restaurant with magnificent panoramic views. The cable car to the top of the mountain was a kind of adventure (when you are scared of height!) but brings you to an high altitude where you can start several hikes. Appenzell is a beautiful very special little town and very nearby.

The rooms are nice, spotlessly clean as are bathrooms. Very charming dining room, good continental breakfast. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel. The hotel is sit apart from the main street which is nice and has a nice outdoors which we didn't get to use because it was raining. Room is spotless. Towels have no musty smell. Bedding is clean. Bed is comfortable, we have a good sleep. Good breakfast. Exceptional dinner. We will return in our next Switzerland visit.

The hotel rooms are newly renovated and it is clear that the owners are constantly improving the property and thinking of guests staying there. What is really exceptional is the restaurant run by the owner himself - the food is really extraordinary there (not only typical Swiss cuisine, but also international on amazing level). The breakfast is superb and so it the view from the windows.

We were able to park our car in an underground garage, do some laundry, and the breakfast was nice to fuel us for our hike in the Appenzell mountains. Would recommend for families-our room had a crib for our one month old and a single bed for our three year old. It was also very nice to have a bathtub in the room for bathing the children.

The room we were staying in was a good size with comfortable beds. The shower was small but it had great water pressure. There was a nice restaurant across the road at the top of the hill I'd recommend called Hotel Restaurant Belvedere. The breakfast was included and it was very good!
