The village is situated on a sunny terrace on Monte Generoso and enjoys a mild climate. It is overlooked by the pyramid-like silhouette of Monte St. Agata. Its territory extends up to the summit of Monte Generoso. Its origins are very old, as proven by various archaeological diggings; tombs have been found from both the Bronze Age and the Roman Period, as well as a stele dating back to several centuries before Christ. Rovio is the birthplace of numerous artists: the Carlonis, the Baguttis, and the Mazzettis among others. Rovio is situated 2 kilometres from the lake, 15 kilometres from Lugano, 10 kilometres from Mendrisio, 15 kilometres from Chiasso, 5 kilometres from Campione d'Italia and 7 kilometres from Morcote.

Over all, we left the hotel with good impression. - Rooms need some updating with more modern furnitures and equipments such as air conditioning. Televisions looked like if it time travelled from the end of 70s. I was very surprised to find out that it still works! Dinner buffet was 36 euros for adults and 14 euros for even young children / babies which is not worth it unless you are very hungry. Hotel cooking was just ok and could be better.	6.5

Breakfast buffet (included) was amazing. The Saturday evening dinner buffet (not included) was memorable for its amazing variety of excellent choices. Though clean, everything is in apparent need of thorough renovation and/or updating. My room was apparently converted from a utility closet or something - not unexpected given the price and honest description. However, the room was right above the kitchen and thus too hot no matter how open the window.	8

Rundum das Haus müsste das Gerümpel entsorgt werden. Gäste ohne Halbpension werden auch bei längerem Aufenthalt täglich wechselnd an wenig attraktive Plätze verwiesen.	4
