The Derby Swiss Quality Hotel is a 3-star superior hotel located right at the train station in the very center of Grindelwald and features a familiar atmosphere and delicious Swiss cuisine.
Score from 355 reviews Very good
The main ski runs are accessed via the mountain railway, so location near the station was a plus. Atmospheric traditional chalet style hotel.
The restaurant had some delicious food (loved the calves liver) but the simple dining options in the restaurant were expensive (spaghetti with pesto over 20 francs) and hard to find much that did not contain pork.
Excellent location and very helpful staff. Would definitely return here! The food was top notch.
The hotel was picturesque and had newly renovated rooms. The room was a great size for a family and the bathroom was completely new. The breakfast included a good buffet and great German breads. The hotel was located in a great position for the train station, but was a bit far from the First gondola, with small children.
The access road/driveway to the hotel was really steep and when frozen or close to freezing it was treacherous. It had not been gritted.
Nice location with mountain right in front of the room... friendly and helpful host from the hotel. .
No hot food breakfast..
Perfect Location. Friendly staff and cosy decor. Buffet breakfast.
The location was a five minute walk from the train station and the view from the balcony was amazing.
The walk up the drive is a little steep especially when walking with luggage. Also disappointed that the restaurant was closed for dinner while we were there, although it was open for breakfast which was great.
Very friendly owner. Took care of special requirement for Tea/Coffee kettle. Guest care was his top priority. Excellent view of the mountains from room and restaurant. Very good breakfast.
Due to low season the restaurant was closed and we went to another hotel for Dinner.
Owner was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We felt right at home. Location to train station and center of town was excellent.
Breakfast was very meager, not like German hotel breakfasts.
The location of hotel
The hotel staff spoke English and were very helpful. The hotel is just off the main street in Grindelwald and is central to all amenities. Breakfast was small, but enough to get you started. The Wi-Fi wasn't too bad either.
Nothing at all.
Cozy bedroom with nice wood furniture. Nice bathroom with great shower and modern amenities. Superb terrace with amazing view of the mountains
Very convenient location, just 5-min walk from the Grindelwald station. The hotel is designed as sweet & comfortable home. Nice balcony attached to the room. Managers are very patient & helpful for travel advice. Had a very pleasant 3-night stay in Alpina.
Lack of hooks for hanging clothes in bathroom.
We only had 2 nights at the Alpina while enroute from Italy back to Calais. The Hotel was in a perfect location to enable us to walk to the First mountain cable car and enjoy a wonderful day of autumn sunshine high in the alps. We will never forget it. Room was on the front of hotel with Eiger view. Dined in the hotel restaurant on both nights and were not disappointed. Would very happily stay again in the future.
Hotel room excellent for a shortish stay but would like a bit more space if staying a week or more.
The view on the balcony is excellent. The food in restaurant is excellent. All thing is good.
The Wi-Fi is not fast enough.
Spectacular view across the valley to the Eiger and other alps from our balcony. Clean, efficiently run Swiss hotel. Excellent restaurant. Close to railroad station, but far enough away to be out of any noise and crowds. Easy walking distance to town. Accommodating staff.
Steep walk up from the main street/railroad station.
I liked the helpful and friendly staff. The location was very convenient. The breakfast was very tasty and we both enjoyed dinner there on a couple of nights. The owner was great at providing information about the activities in the area. On the whole a real find!
The balcony. And since we had to catch the first train early in the morning, the staff help packed two sets of breakfast and left them at the desk for us, very considerate
The lady at the reception was nice and helpful as was the man later that night.
The rude lady in the restaurant, disgraceful to be honest to treat hotel guests in such a manor. Won't recommend it to anyone because of her!
Location of this hotel is excellent - set back and up from the main road, so it's quiet, and the mountain view from the room balcony (with window box flowers) was amazing. Easy parking. A few moments walk to the train station to go to Jungfraujoch. Nice breakfast, and a very good restaurant for dinner - not cheap but good value. Staff were very helpful and a mine of information about how to enjoy the area.
Shower cubicle was very compact for a tall person. Apart from that a brilliant experience - would recommend to anyone.
Central location to the railway station and cable cars. Friendly and helpful staff with a charming restaurant. Wonderful views, even at the back!
I loved the hotel and the town. It's so cute, balcony had lovelyviews of the mountains and was great to relax on. Staff were friendly and the breakfast good. The hill up to the hotel is hardly anything compared to other reviews.
A kettle would have been nice.
Perfect for the train station and trips all around the Jungfrau region and down into Interlaken. Brilliant view of the Eiger from our balcony. Helpful information on site to navigate all of the trip options as well as a 50% reduction guest card for some Grindelwald trips (inc Grindelwald First). Easy to get to a whole range of restaurants in town and as it is up a small but steep hill it is away from the main road - so little noise.
Bit tired looking - needs some TLC in places. Feels like a budget hotel. Room much smaller than it appeared in the pictures.
Clean, decent, average hotel for money
Even so many tables by the window are unoccupied, didn't let me (solo traveler) sit by the window for my last breakfast at the hotel even asked politely
the staff was very accommodative
nothing, except that it was bit of a steep climb with baggage.
