Schützenbach Backpackers & CampingSchützenbach, 3822 Lauterbrunnen (Show map) Review score 7 Score from 42 reviewsThe Hostel Schützenbach Backpacker & Camping in Lauterbrunnen in the Jungfrau region is located close to the ski slopes on both sides of the valley. The room was clean and serviceable for the price The room could benefit from having more luggage/clothing hooks on doors and sturdy places to help relieve congestion with stuff like small bags and jackets that end-up on the floor. The shared facilities on our floor were very cramped and a bit dark. The accommodation was a bit far to walk from the railway station and the bus runs about every 30 minutes.

The surrounding nature and sights such a pretty location :) and the bedrooms were clean and tidy. The reception wasn't 24 hours and the morning of my check out they didn't open till 8am but I need to leave before then as I had a bus in town to catch at 8am. Couldn't just leave cause they had my passport, I asked 3 staff members that I saw for help they all said I had to wait til 8am, the language barrier didn't help. Wish they had more convenient reception hours or somewhere to go if you need to check out earlier. Lucky my bus left late and I made it :)

location of the accommodation is ok, it's 3 bustops away from the station and there is a shortcut to which you can also take. staff is friendly and accommodating. room is very basic but clean, separated shower and bathroom is clean and hot water is running okay. very poor mattress quality, it's soft like cotton it could be bad to those with back problem. you can also hear steps from the room above you which is bad for a light sleeper like me.

nice atmosphere and people at reception and bar, rooms are compact but clean. The location is near to the walk-way to the Yungfrau mountain, so you can get to the Kleine Sheidegg station in 3 hours walking up, passing beautiful landscapes. extra-small rooms (4-bed room), no place for pack-unpack tour things or to do anything, when you wake up at top bed - the roof is in 30cm from your head, so it is not possible to seat straight there. The toilets and bathrooms are in other building, there are no towels or hot water in the shower included in room price so it is an extra. the time of check-in and check-out on the site is wrong - check-in is till 19.30 and check-out is till 10 or 11. Very long way from the train station to the hostel.

Good location and relatively cheaper. The small room (4 bed room) and the facilities were quite clean. The facilities are not good, even compares with the camping sites at the other side of the river. Furthermore, I really do not like their ways on the operation and management: shower you have to pay, 0.5 franc for 4 minutes; the prices in their small shop are more than 3 times higher than those are in the supermarket and twice higher than the shops in the Lauterbrunen. Cooking you have to pay 2 francs for 15 min. The most funny thing was: there was an notice at the bank of the small stream, where said that you can only cooling the stuff which you bought from their shop, it was not allowed to colling your own stuff.

The view from my window. When I arrived, the reception was closed. It was 8pm. A woman at the bar took my id and showed my room. No mention of how to pay or anything else. There were no lockers and no key to the dorm room. When I asked about it, the reason was because it was Switzerland and it was safe. The free WiFi was not working. - I spent the entire two days out of the hotstel, and on the last day I went to the reception again, and it was closed (I did get there at about 7:45pm because I was on the mountain the entire day) There were no posted hours, and no one on staff if problems arise during the night. On top of that, I had to have my friends check me out in the morning so I could catch my bus at 8am. On booking.com it was supposed to be 60.00chf, but they charged me 72.00chf.

We stayed in a private double room. The room was cozy with an area to set our bags, a desk, a small open closet to hang a few items and a sink. The windows are reinforced to help reduce noise and to maintain temperature. The bed was comfortable and the down comforters kept me warm in 11 C weather. The bathrooms were clean and the showers have hot water! This was an excellent place to stay at a very affordable price! The "stump bar" was simple and easy to relax in. Our hostess was fantastic! She helped us to figure out the easiest way to hike the area, ride the gondolas and the bus at the best price. We can't thank her enough! There isn't a place to eat next to the Schutzenbach. You have to walk 10-15 minutes into the main section of the little town to find even a snack. I did appreciate the small assortment of candy/nuts available for purchase in the office- but you have to buy them during business hours.

Beds were comfortable and warm. Staff were freindly and helpful in explaining the area and how to get about etc. Staff were not freindly before arrival when trying to arrange a late arrival. It is not clear from the websites that the rooms are cabins outside, showers and toilets are communal and centrally located - this is not necessarily a problem given the price but it would be better to know when making the booking.

Please change the location map for the hostell. It shows that the hostell is in the middle of town however in reality it is a 20 minute walk from the train station at the far end of town.

Easy to find/reach. Beautiful nature around. Excellent quality for the price. Kitchen available. Quite kind staff. Free parking. Double rooms and their facilities better than in European F1 hotels. A bit late check-in time

“Excellent value, very accessible, close to train station. We had a large triple room on the top floor which also contained a table and chairs, shared bathroom and shared kitchen but as the hostel wasn't busy we virtually had it to ourselves. We had a spectacular view from our room looking down the valley with a balcony off our room as weel as free WiFi Internet access. Staff were excellent and a wealth of information as well as providing us with 40% off coupons to go to Shilthorn.” Kim, Margaret River, W.a. |
