Hotel information

Member of the Swiss Deluxe Hotels.

The hotel opened in 1902 at the south end of town, next to the lake and on the grounds of the Villa Merlina, a 19th-century villa (1887) known for its spectacular gardens. The owners, the Fedele family, enlarged the existing structure and opened a 125-bed hotel, originally called the Hotel Splendide.
The hotel soon gained a steady clientele among the wealthy Europeans who frequented this summer resort. In 1977 an Italian hotel company, Roberto Naldi Hotels, bought the hotel from the Fedele family and in 1983 they added a new wing with 53 guest rooms.

Today it is known as Lugano's foremost hotel, with 94 guest rooms and a staff of 100 employees who provide meticulous personal service. The hotel inspires loyalty among its clients, more than half the guests here usually being repeat visitors.

Food & beverage

For an important business lunch or a romantic dinner in Lugano, we suggest our restaurant "La Veranda". Elegant and refined, it overlooks Lake Lugano and the mountains. It serves a variety of dishes, from sophisticated and elaborate French cuisine to tasty, genuine Italian and Mediterranean dishes.

"Piano Bar":
Found alongside the entrance hall, it is an informal meeting place serving Italian regional specialities, snacks, aperitifs and cocktails. Live music from 19:00 until late in the evening.

Area information

The Splendide Royal is located on the main street along the lake. Riva Caccia connects with one of the most elegant shopping areas of Lugano, the Via Nassa. The city centre can be reached in a walk of just few minutes along the lake.

I found your staff to be excellent.

I was unconfortable with the lay out of the breakfast room, I feel this could be better organised, it was not conducive to a relaxing breakfast having the buffet spread out across the room. We had a table which was continously passed by people collecting food and exiting the breakfast area. This could be easily changed.

the design of everything from light switches to furniture is not user-friendly at all - although this is a problem with almost all European hotels

The conceirge was excellent and informative about things to do and to
see that are not in the guide books

The breakfast for a 5 star hotel was a little flat. We were charged for
our hire car being put away; the driveway to the hotel is narrow, nearly
always congested, and is on a very steep bank. We agreed to it being put
away to save the staff (or us) the hassel of parking in so difficult a
place; we didn't need the car for a days or so and accepted the
suggestion made by them - it should have been made plain to us at that
time there was a charge of 30 CHFa day. The receptionist at check out
was dismissive and didn't take this suggestion on board.

The staff were very polite and helpful. Was exceptional value for money. Not too far to walk the centre of town and the station. The pool was also lovely.

Fantastic location. Good breakfast. Excellent helpful staff.

Pool is a bit small. Very limited english language TV - not that we used it much but it would have been nice to have something to watch other than tedious CNN.

Wunderbares Frühstückbuffet, die Freundlichkeit an der Reception ist vorbildlich Die Lage des Hotels ist toll, die Zimmer feudal und einladend

Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit Blick in den Garten(hiess es) Dies ist aber kein Garten, sondern eine Art Hinterhof , nichts wirklich schönes. Schade! Da stimmt die Preis-Leistung nicht.
