Hotel Walter Au Lac  

La ubicacion del hotel es espectacular!!! Tener el lago de Lugano cruzando la calle...y verlo desde la habitación.. No tengo palabras para describirlo...MARAVILLOSO!!! El personal muy atento y cálido. El desayuno muy bueno y variado. Volvería sin duda alguna!!!

We like this hotel especially for location and view. ..have stayed there five times since 1985. Only thing not to like might be that it is not a Ritz Carlton

Exellent view from the balcony. Nice atmosphere of 1900's with modern facilities of rooms. The very center of the city! Lugano is like a picture.

Do not put things on the floor. In the old floors a lot of ants. We had to wash the products and bags half the night. The rest of the hotel, though old but nice and comfortable.

Location is great and the staff of the hotel very freindly.

The pictures available online are NOTHING like the hotel itself!!! Our room was dirty and dark. The breakfast was not good (not enough variety and food seemed stale).

An excellent hotel with wonderful staff. The view over the lake is wonderful. We had a balcony which was fantastic because we could sit outside too. Excellent breakfast. Clean, quiet. Highly recommend.

Location overlooks the lake. Perfect View. Walking distance to all shopping area. The staffs are friendly.

Old world charm in a perfect location close to shopping and great restaurants.

The staff were very friendly and helpful! They were extremely helpful with food choices, boat schedules and the bus routes. The hotel was nice and the room was comfortable with a nice view of Lago di Lugano.

It was a bit pricey for Lugano. I understand it was on the water but the room itself was small and noisy for the money.

The location is perfect. The view is breathtaking... Breakfast has verity of options. Rooms are equipped with ac, Tea/Coffee making facilities, and fridges... Lots of good restaurants around the hotel The main shopping area is just behind the hotel Hotel staff is very friendly

Parking is a bit far from the hotel Rooms floor is very noisy Furniture is a bit old

Perfect location, wonderful view. Was upgraded which was a nice surprise! The staff were very friendly and the room/suite was perfect, with a wonderful shower. The complimentary breakfast in a lovely room with views, rivals any comlimentary breakfast in the United States. Truly, great coffee's, quality pastry's, fruits, delicious cheeses and hot foods...! My daughter goes to school there, so I would definitely stay there next time I go.

1. The location is perfect. We had a room with a beautiful lake and mountains view, city-tour bus stop and boat station nearby, railway station at the distance of 5 min.covered by wonderful car-cable, nice shops around. 2. It was a pleasure to have breakfasts in the hotel, Food is good, stuff is friendly, beautiful lake and mountain view from the windows of the restaurant. 3. Stuff at the reception is very helpful and friendly. 4. Room was clean and bright (standard room). Big and comfortable bathroom. Possibility to make tea and coffee in the room. We enjoyed sitting in a balcony (round table and 2 chairs).

Old and beautiful floor in the rooms (made of wood) is a bit noisy.

Most. Dirty (I found hair in my bed). Last time renovated in the 70s...., receptions don't understand how to treat people. please note: i am in Lugano every 2 weeks, and tried most form 3-5 stars, and this is rock bottom

Squeeky floors

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but found the previous reviews helpful and hope my review can help as well. This hotel turned out to be perfect for what I was looking for. I was going to Lugano to pick up my son from his summer program and gave myself a couple of days to sight see. I was looking for a hotel with reasonable prices, lake views, good location and decent decor. After all, I was coming all the way from Coastal California and wanted a pleasant experience for my first visit to Lugano. I liked the traditional european facade of the hotel, the location is on the lake and in easy walking distance to shops,restaurants. The rooms were clean & simple with a fresh look of white linens and hardwood floors. The staff was friendly and helpful. There is traffic noise, but closing the windows shut out most of the noise. And since there was air conditioning, there was no problem staying comfortable. The breakfast buffet was fresh and plentiful offered in a nice room overlooking the lake. Free wii fii is a big plus. The overall ambience was warm and inviting. The only reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5 is that it is not a over the top luxurious hotel as the scale might imply, but Hotel Walter Au Lac was the perfect gem!

The view from our room was amazing, towering mountains with terraced villas on green foothills, leading down to the aqua waters of the lake. Wonderful! There were paddle boats for hire directly opposite the hotel, which is situated in the 'old town', not very far from the main train station and an easy walk from where the funicular stops. So bringing bags down from the station is simple. Breakfast was reasonable, and there was a fair variety of foods. Staff at the hotel were very helpful and polite. Our room showed it's age, but was relatively comfortable, and the ensuite bathroom was very spacious.

Small items, such as sugar, coffee, or teaspoons were not replaced in our room when used. Our last 2 nights there was a concert on nearby which meant disrupted sleep till the early am on both nights. I believe the room was overpriced considering the facilities available.
