I was in Switzerland to introduce my novel eskandar to the swiss audience and readers. Staying at the ZicZac was commode because it is located in the center of the city and it made it easy to move from appointment to appointment. Although it was very difficult to do my mailing because they do not have wireless- neither in the hotel, nor in the closer vicinity- and that is a big disadvantage. The staff was friendly, the price low- hence expectations were not high. Location and fairly low prices. And I would recommend it to people who do not need to spend time in their room, but only need a low price place to sleep.

The only positive side to this hotel was the cool authentic-looking golden records on the walls. There are no other reasons to even take a free tour of this hotel, much less spend a small fortune staying in a sleazy bug-ridden hotel. The room was ridiculously tiny, the building was run down, and for $150 usd per night, we got one sink, no toilette, no shower ("You didn't ask for a shower when booking.") The only toilette on the entire floor was a single shared men/womens toilet that didn't even work fully, and the only showers on the floor was a 3 stall coed shower room. The room we had came with a tiny tiny tv, except the cable didn't even work. When we called the front desk, they said it would be out for the next week. I don't doubt that they don't even pay for cable, and just tell everybody it will be out for a week, knowing full well that nobody would want to--or even be able to afford to stay for more than a week. For the huge price and awful accommodations, you don't even get a breakfast, WiFi, or a second key. You are even told not to leave the hotel with the key, because it's the only copy. Instead you carry a small laminated card (made in about 30 seconds by a 3rd Grader) with your room number on it. The only other guests we had seen were very shady looking people and were not at all friendly. The staff was awful as well, made up entirely of 18-20 year olds, and when asked a question, look at you with confusion and say "I don't know, my manager will be back tomorrow morning."

My reason for choosing this hotel was that I wanted a one night stopover on my train journey through the Alps...Paris to Zurich and then next day Zurich to Milan the scenic leg (highly recommended). I had read the reviews of this place and most were negative, but I decided to take a chance on it. Yes, the place is stuck in a time warp, with 60's 70's Rock stars, you would have to be over 30 to remember most of them. Having said that I found the basic themed rooms (I had Bon Jovi) were clean and simple, and perfect for my needs for one night. The staff were friendly and it being a Monday the place was quiet and I slept really well. I would say if you are young and are happy to save money in Zurich...which is very expensive, this might be for you, however I would not recommened it for sensitive mature couples who are used to upmarket hotels. What I would advise is do your homework on the streets leading to the Hotel....it is not easy to find and is more like 10-15 minutes (not 7min) from the Rail Station

The lowest price I could find at that period. friendly and helpful staff, elevator. Poor interior, walls need redecoration, noisy if he window is open(if the window is closed, it is awfully stuffy in the room). recommend or not recommend dependson the aims of travellers. If a person is accustomed to cimfort and silence, he would not like the hotel.

Really good location and friendly staff. Not an amazing value for money - tiny, dark room, clean, but funny smelling... And honestly, CHF 15 for an hour of wired internet in a public space?.. Ridiculous.

Great location means you can walk out of the hotel right into the oldest, nicest, most charming, tourist-friendly part of Zurich. The rooms are very basic, but comfortable; the heating works well - important in the winter! You get a sink in all rooms, but a shower in some. The place is a good value for Switzerland, but it's all about location, location, location. You can hear others, but it's a budget hotel - what do you expect?? It wasn't bad enough to stop me from sleeping.

Staff was real kind. Great Location. Considering other options, price was fair. I will use this hotel when I am traveling to Zurich again. maybe because the location was too good, it was a bit noisy and could not open the window. problem with the shower. water stays a bit on the floor, struggled to put my clothes on trying not to get soaked. (maybe this is not about this hotel but...) price is high. TV program are all with German even no English...

Location The Smell: I felt like I was sleeping in the kitchen of the Indian Restaurant that was just below. The room was kind of dirty, carpet is pretty old, sofa looks like it's been found in the streets the year before. No internet access at all! Generally, I was very unhappy with this stay and will not renew my experience there.

Located not a long way from the Main Railway Station in a lovely situation. No free Swiss plug adaptors - only for 20 Fr!!! Room needs renovation, smell is not fresh. Quite a lazy, relaxed stuff.

“Excellent location, close to station and the liveliest part of town, but quite peaceful. The hotel is plain, simple, functional and completely unadorned, but the furnishings are of good quality and everything is spotlessly clean. Well equipped new bathroom, very comfortable bed and pillow. Good buffet breakfast. Free use of hotel computer. Excellent value for money in a rich city like Zurich.” Barbara, Birmingham |
