|Ideally located along the lovely Nikao Beach, The Islander Hotel boasts a restaurant, bar and outdoor swimming pool. It also offers access to a white sandy beach.|
We loved the pool and the room. The aircon was devine! Cleaners are lovely :) You dont really see the beach from the restaurant or pool.
Didn't really like some of the staff. There were a few that were lovely. But the odd one who wasn't very accommodating. They have a 24hr bar and NO snacks. We had come back really late from a wedding and they wouldn't even let us buy a croissant, we were starving! But they would give us cocktails. One of the ladies wasn't even that nice about it. Kind of ruined the experience. Also get data roaming from your phone. Wifi is $50nzd for 1GB. Its expensive all over the island. Theres plenty of fabulous places o stay - so look and shop around. Also location is good - right across the road from a car and scooter rental. But if you are going for a wedding and everyone is based at Muri lagoon. Stay a little closer to them as its like a 20min scooter drive.
The food is very tasty
The cost of wifi
Everything! We love The Rarotongan
The staff were friendly. The room was clean.
The quality of the food was hideous and the service in the restaurant non-existent. There was no-one in the restaurant but me, and I had to get up to ask the waitress if I could have a drink. Then, after waiting an hour for my meal (a tough steak), I had to get up again to ask how much longer I had to wait. It was the worst meal ever and the worst service. It was very overpriced considering the poor quality of food and neglectful staff. No, I wouldn't go back.
The beach, pool and lagoon left a lasting impression of a paradise Island retreat. Very tranquil and safe, would like to go back.
Staff were friendly however I do believe this was because I had a young baby. As other family members were not happy at all. Pool, kayaks, paddle boards
Price of food Cleanliness of room
It's super easy. The resort has crèche - Litia was enthusiastic and kind with our little one. The bed (hello comfy super king). The TV could play movie off of our USB. The outdoor shower. The reasonably priced half day rental car from reception.
That our spa bath pipes weren't flushed clean. They sometimes ran out of food items for the dishes we ordered, but they didn't tell us before serving it to us... Leaving us a bit confused and frustrated. The bar service is slow...
Ura in the restaurant was always welcoming. Great staff!
Only 1 washing machine in laundry
Staff were amazing and very accommodating. When maintenance was called they were there pronto Activities hut
Food overpriced for standard Garden room I stated in drain was full of gunk, hair from previous people Room also didn't feel clean
Perfect for a young family with great options for the children. Pool to beach in very close proximity and the deluxe room made you feel you are living on the beach! Very cool and the beach felt exclusive to the hotel not like the busy Muri Beach. Breakfast selection average and lack of fresh fruit, please we didn't incorporate breakfast into our package. Resort pool & restaurant areas need a big makeover
The decor of restaurant and pool area needs a revamp. Rooms could too be freshened up, old style.
Kid that that the tour round complex was funny and friendly
Place was tired needs an update a lot of money for what we got i would have been disappointed if i had been there for a week. Staff not that friendly
the snorkellling spot right outside the resturant and the laid back relaxed attitude of the staff
House keeping didn't always refill the sugar and coffee so i had to keep asking. but if that's the worst that can happen over an 8 day stay - then it's all good.
Staff was very unprofessional and unbelievably slow.
Paddle boards to borrow. Staff member who ran kids club was lovely
Old, rooms dark, cocktails terrible, drinks served warm, we had no running water for first day of stay - and we constantly told would be fixed in 1hr. Bar closed earlier than stated so couldn't have a drink after ten. Was advertised as movies in room but no movies, also couldn't rent DVDs as so scratched. Breakfast terrible, and dangerous they were cooking on makeshift tables but cords running everywhere. Also lots of junk so not a nice environment to eat in. Many things old and broken and the second pool went green on our second day and was never fixed. The whole resort is very backward and behind the times. It really is a 2 star hotel.
We need a room for our late flight - we chose the Rarotonga as we had stayed before - and love to see all the fish right at the waters edge
Shame they put sunny seating things all over there pool area - no were to sit at the pool - service was really slow for drinks and meals, in the end I went and go our meal from the kitchen as we were on a deadline - check in was painfully slow as well.
Victor the wedding planner was a gem.
We thought the rooms were run down. I felt like getting my own cleaning materials out to give my room a spring clean. The staff looked tired at times, lacking energy and were a wee bit grumpy. Food was average for the price you pay.
Stunning location, beautiful lagoon with access to ample snorkeling equipment.
Poor, poor service - staff just appeared not to care. Customers collecting their own food from kitchen as they become sick of waiting for service. Plates left lying everywhere. They say they are understaffed but many appear to be sitting or walking around doing not much. Booked in massage but they double booked and then left me waiting with no apology. Then they tried to charge me for it later.
The Garden room was great, good size, very clean and serviced daily with clean towels. D I didn't feel the need for a beach front room. Perfect location - for couples, families or friends. Staff were lovely and helpful.
It's a bit 'tired' in the restaurant and the meals seemed to cater more for families. I would like to see more local food on the menu. Getting internet conection was very expensive, I thought it would come free with the room. They need to get with it with people wanting to keep in touch through social media and communication with friends and family.
All aspects of our brief stay.
No complaints at all.
The location was awesome with fantastic snorkeling and swimming at the front door. Loved the sunsets and the location between town and Muri. Staff were pleasant enough but under resourced at times meaning queues for cocktail hour and a wait for tables to be cleared etc... They seem to be aware of this with management changes in some areas. We had a 2 bedroom unit which was perfect for us, 2 adults and 2 teenage daughters, had cooking facilities and plenty of plates, pots etc... We went with a view of having some relaxing family time, and were prepared to clear a table if we wanted to sit there so we could overlook the beautiful lagoon at breakfast and to not be bothered if we missed out on discounted drinks during happy hour. ($15NZ for a cocktail is already pretty reasonable) If you want one of the best locations for snorkeling and are prepared to put up with a casual attitude (you are trying to relax remember) this is a great place to stay. Finally the cultural show on Wednesday was fantastic with an umu and bbq buffet, and in general we could find something that suited us from either the daily event menu or a la carte menu. Charlie from activities is such a nice guy and really looked after our family in every way he could.
Bar/restaurant understaffed at times. Not a lot of teenagers there even though we were in school holidays but many more younger families. Better detail to cleaning, and more smiling faces from staff would be an improvement. Investment in staff required to lead the importance of how each of them play a part in making the holiday experience for their guests go from average, to wonderful.
Most things were good. Location not bad. Good size rooms. Got room service daily.
I wasnt a fan of the food at the restaurant. my partner didnt mind. We both didnt like the very slow arrival time of the food and staff were very slow at serving too. Food was cold a few times.
location! pool and huts availability of wetsuits, kayaks and snorkelling gear ukulele and drum lessons kids club water slides bus stop at hotel cocktails smoothies and mocktails chess
service very slow especially for food dinner too late for small children menu limited and ordinary couldn't provide macaroni cheese all week! limited range breakfast juices and fruits bicycles were rusty, flat tyres or broken snorkels/masks leaked or broken, some wetsuits torn loose tiles and dripping tap in bathroom, hole in wall, no bathplug took a whole day to unblock ensuite some staff v friendly, others not - with poor eye contact kids club staff took children outside without sunscreen or hats dirty plates not cleared, tables not wiped esp in huts
the beach location
grumpy staff, slow service , quality of food
Good selection of meals at captains andys bar Great location Great cocktails esp Island Girl Beachside room was good for a family of four gym was well resourced massage was incredible great bus service activities hut (young guy with moustache) was ever so helpful!!
