My advice if you are considering this property is to confirm 100% that all renovations are complete and the property will have staff onsite before you commit. I don't think my experience was typical, and it would be my assumption that the property and the staff will be in order once this happens.
There is a pretty courtyard with chairs and a sofa. 2 of 4 rooms along with the kitchen and the common area overlook this courtyard Room was spacious
Overpriced for the provided facilities. I suspect the price went up due to Lonely Planet recommendation, but is definitely not worth it Room had a smell of old, damp or unclean linens Linens didn't look that clean Tiny shower, bathroom There is a window which opens onto the common corridor. So, you have to choose between privacy and ventillation Although well behaved, got the impression that the staff didn't care or didn't enjoy the job Breakfast is ok
Location close to city centre, quaint building, leafy suburb.
Overpriced. On our first trip there were two of us (charge US$80); on our second there were three. An extra bed was put in the twin-bed room and the charge was an additional US$40.
Location was fair. Alex the sleep in site manager was very helpful.
The owner has clearly shoe horned a hotel into a house which provides the unsuspecting customer with some really unwelcome surprises! Such as since the room you get is technically just a bedroom, their was originally no room for a bathroom. No problem he just whacks one in. That brings with it one major problem. He has built a toilet withe a sliding chipboard door that when closed my 5ft 6in partner could not sit on the toilet without her knees hitting the door. I'm 6ft 4 in so clearly ( & for most people I suspect) they will need to leave the door open just to sit down! This leads to problem No 2 - there is no door on the bathroom!!, so go figure what happens then! They also ask what time you expect to arrive. What they don't tell you is god forbid if you arrive outside those hours as there may well be nobody there since they have all moved on to other things! We arrived 2 hours earlier than we said as we changed our plans and the whole place was locked up. We waited for almost an hour and if it wasn't for a friendly Neighbour who happened to have the owners mobile (Christian) gods knows how long we would have waited. You could say we were unlucky but it would have been nice if they had explained why they ask you when you are expecting to arrive. Be careful how you answer. After traveling for a month this is the only place I regretted staying and would not recommend it apart from Alex who was an absute gem. If Christian the owner was any more laid back he'd be asleep. I got the distinct impression this was not a labour of love for him and it was more about stuffing as many rooms as you can in a house despite the obvious discomfort for some clients. Btw - there wasn't even a wardrobe in our room so good luck hanging anything up.
