Lovely welcome & great location. Slept really well in calm space. Breakfast was great too.
The rooms are basic but good for a hostel. Sadly, the cable car was being restored so because of bad back, found getting around difficult. Check cable car.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there in a large room with a wonderful view of the harbour. The management and staff were friendly, efficient, and helpful; and, I always had a good breakfast to help me get a good start to my interesting days touring around Valpo and region. It is near the very interesting Marine & Naval Museum which is a must to tour.
Spectacular location with great views on the city and the harbor ; tranquility and discreet staff ; the beautiful room.
With the ascensor out of function and a lot of construction the connection with the city does not feel very safe ; will be better in one year ; distance from the city center is not inviting on foot; car or taxi needed but the very small staff does not make it easy to get can services ; breakfast could be more copious.
Driving into Valparaiso, we had no idea what the city/parking was like. Casa Artilleria 199 was actually in a great location, with parking just feet away. We were an easy (downhill) walk into town. Though we were cautioned about the walk back after dark, we never felt unsafe. Also, whatever your vision of a "hostal," this is definitely more of a boutique hotel.
Our travels in Chile were made more memorable time after time by the people we met at the places we stayed. The young man, whose name we don't even recall, who we interacted with provided info when asked, but otherwise kept to himself. Not bad, but definitely a different experience.
The location is really good, even if located close to the port, the noise doesn't bother and you have a nice view of the entire Valparaiso. Also is located close to the old town, Plaza Sotomayor (10 min walk) And near to Cerro Alegre and Co. Concepcion. Ale (staff) is really nice and gave us nice tips about how to move around the city.
Friendly and helpful owners, good breakfast (the usual bread and yoghurt but also juice and lots of fruit), nice views from the balcony, bright rooms. We had a twin with bathroom outside and it was perfectly fine.
The ascensor is out of service, and has been since September. It's an ok walk up and down a few times but eventually gets tiresome. Usually couldn't get wifi in the room and occasionally couldn't connect even in the lobby. Mostly fine, though.
Very friendly owner who took the time to give you advise about the town and surroundings (in perfect English) Great vieuws from the rooms
Was located in the old town area ..
The picture on booking.com is a bit miss leaving it must have been taking about five years ago. It only takes cash,No credit card
Location is Great, futniture and House very nice! One of the best places to stay in valpo
Lovely host and family. Wonderful one hundred and ten year old home. Funky neighbourhood. Wonderful view of the harbour and city.
No fan in the room but opening the window was not a good option because of the noise from the harbour container terminal. Neighbourhood might be a touch too funky for some, but we liked it. It was "real".
Location, host was very helpful, good info, splendid view
