A childhood friend and I drive from Santiago and stayed at Casa Patricia for two nights in late December. The place is a bit tucked away (off the GPS grid), so ask anyone in Laguna Verde how to get to Almacen El Popeye (pronounced Poh-pey-yeh- essentially up the hill on the main windy paved road, right turn after the pavement ends and continue along until you see the little store on your right). From El Popeye, call Patricia, and she will send Manual, your trusty guide, to get you through the off-road labyrinth (4x4 not needed) to her precious home, where you will be greeted with open arms by Patricia, Carmen and (in our case) Patricia's lovely neice. This truly is a family affair, and every detail is carefully mapped out for your comfort, complete with onsite sauna, jacuzzi spa, pool, rodeo ring, dining hall and smashing views. We stayed in an upstairs room with 2 bedrooms (one with two twin beds and one with 3 twin beds), a small table and chairs and a bathroom with stand up shower. It is very windy in that area, so bring a jacket for laying out after a dip in the pool and for star gazing under crystal clear skies. Breakfasts were typical Chilean/European (hardboiled egg, cold meats, cheese, bread, butter, jam, tea and coffee) and enjoyable. Carmen offered to make us lunch and clean our rooms while we were out, but we decelined and instead opted to eat the snacks we had previously bought at Popeye's and spend the early afternoon in Playa Las Docas (again guided by Manuel) followed by a brief hike to the shore with Patricia's neice upon our return. What a treat! The accommodations were very clean comfortable, the shower was hot, but most importantly the location is so serene and beautiful and the hosts so incredibly kind, it made for a relaxing vacation with just the right touch of adventure. Thank you, Patricia, Carmen, Manuel and Melanie!
Special note: Although there is no wi-fi, I had good cell phone signal there.
