Doris and Carolina could not do enough for us. The house was quaint, the terraces lovely. We were not near the centre of town but it was really cheap to travel by the collectivo taxis. I would recommend this place if you enjoy the B&B experience. I'm glad we stayed here, way up on a hill, with a view of the bay, in the middle of a residential area.

We had an upstairs bedroom, it was a chore carrying our luggage up the narrow/curved staircase. Too much clutter. The two sisters have an extremely large collection of glassware and knick knacks, it is on everywhere and on every surface, sometimes in layers. They love it and keep everything clean and dusted, but the common spaces are small/tight, so you are always conscious that you may break items. eg. having hurricane lamps on the stairs when you are struggling with your large suitcase can be dangerous. On the other hand you can stand by and one of the sisters will carry it up/down for you.

Grand House is very accurately named. It's a grand old mansion, filled with antiques that compete for attention with the stupendous view of Valparaiso's harbor. The 2 sisters who run it are very conscientious, very welcoming -- and they speak English, which is not a given in Chile's hospitality industry. They made us feel right at home. The huge breakfast (included) they serve on the view terrace was a plus.

At first blush Grand House seemed daunting because it's up a steep twisty hill. But once the sisters who run it show you how to get back and forth to central Valparaiso, it's very easy and inexpensive to do so. Still, this would not be a good choice for the mobility impaired because there are stairs and no elevator. Otherwise it's highly recommended. I'd definitely stay there again.

This is a Bed and Breakfast operated by Doris and Carolina Aranguiz Vega. It is a charming old mansion built by their grandfather in the hill of Valparaiso on a steep cooble street. Breakfast was served on their terraces which had a magnificent view of Valparaiso and the Pacific Ocean. The room was comfortable and the two sisters bent over backwards to make our stay pleasant. They showed us how to use the Cooperativa, shared taxis, which allow the residents to go downtown and back. They also provided the service of a taxi who droved us to all the sites we wanted to see in Valparaiso. Carolina came with us and provided information and translation.

It was not easy to find the Grand House in the maze of narrow one way streets up the hills overlooking Valparaiso.

The people were wonderful, extremely helpful, and I mean extremely.

It is difficult to find the place even with a map. There are steep one-way streets.

The very warm welcome from Doris and Carolina into their charming home, and the help to get to our ship at the port

Both the map and Google map were difficult to find our way with limited street signage. Telephone ahead and your hosts will help you!

Our stay at the Grand House was as fascinating as Valparaiso itself. Great location, beautiful home and Doris and Carolina charming and informative hostesses. If you are driving - follow the directions you receive from Doris (don't follow the GPS!)
