Location Global design Nice courtyard English is spoken. No window in the room (safety?) The sheets are smaller than the mattress ! The wifi signal is very hard to catch from the room, I had to connect from the lobby. A prepayment for the full stay was asked, unlike stated at booking time on this site. The Credit Card is accepted, but the staff tries to make you pay by cash, which I found quite annoying.

The unfailingly helpful friendly staff. The location enables one to experience hutong life and be within walking distance of subway stations The hotel was in the midst of renovations which was inconvenient to guests there at the time. The single room I was initially assigned was tiny, had no natural light and was claustrophobic. Fortunately after a few nights I was upgraded at no extra cost to a larger room with a window at no extra cost.

Featuring charming, ultra-helpful English-speaking staff; the Xiao Yuan Alley hotel provides comfortable beds and good facilities, with a superbly located downtown hutong (Beijing alley) location, sensibly priced organized tours (if you wish) and excellent and very reasonably priced food available inside and nearby outside the hotel. And it's a very affordable place. I very much want to stay at this hotel again. I get happy just thinking about it. Highly recommend. Leaving :-(.

I took the double deluxe room and I got exactly the room I asked for. The hotel is pleasant, small, and well located. Nothing is perfect in it, but for the money it is very good value. Internet was censored (Facebook, and one the second day also Google) (but that's not the fault of the hotel of course.) The staff is rather slow and speaks very bad English.

Nice hotel, very nice staff and service ; in the middle of the Hutongs, so location is excellent, my room was also good, typical chinese with a very large (and chinese hard) bed, quiet hotel 10 minutes walk to the subway, but it is a nice walk, bathroom has a modern shower but not all the sprinkles work

(1) &Quot;Hutong" look and feel. (2) Friendly staff. (1) Request for extra pillow not noted. (2) No free drinking water bottle nor drinking water refill provided. (3) Shower glass room and toilet seat space just too small (even for Asian). (4) Room too dark & insufficient lighting option; with one decorative stand lamp at a corner not working. (5) Difficult to find and locate the hostel even to local (a Beijing friend).

The atmosphere in the Hutong street. Felt as quite genuine, despite the modern times now. Quite beautiful, if one is looking for CHINA. Staff were always friendly and helpful, doing their best when there was some refurnishing work going on. They gave 1st night for free also, when I was given a less good room 1st night due to over-booking or sth. So, they somehow tried their best. 1) I was given a less good room the 1st night (without own toilet), due to overbooking (?), despite having booked with card and subject to fee if late cancellation. Although I got that night for free. 2) A bit UNLUCKY, in that they did refurnishing work, here and there inside the hotel, also inside the bar/restaurant, the week when I was there. One day, they even did it in my room while I was away. So had to wait some 1/2 hour, before finish and cleanup. Not too troublesome of course, still a bit surprised to find workers in my room....they could maybe have informed better.

The staff was really friendly, they helped us to have dinner outside the hotel, in a small restaurant next to it. Everything we asked for we had promptly. The location is not so good, it is 10-15 min walking from the metro station, but could be better.

The staff were excellent, especially Apple, great customer service. Very authentic Beijing feel, traditional hutong area. Many shops, restaurants near hotel. The breakfast was a little average and the bathroom was a little congested/small.

Staff were very friendly & helpful & always went out of their way to say hello (big thanks to Angel). Good size room with very a clean bathroom. Restaurant food was ok & reasonably priced. The hotel was a 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station & only seconds away from restaurants & shops. They also organise a trip to the Great Wall of China which is well worth doing! Overall we enjoyed out stay here & would recommend this hotel to those coming to China in the summer. There is no central heating in the hotel so in the winter it does feel very cold. The wifi was good in the lobby & restaurant but not so good in the rooms on the 2nd floor. We stayed 11nights & didn't have our bed sheets changed which was a little disappointing. We had a TV that only had one English Channel which was the news- recomend getting a movie channel or TV that have subtitles. Also an English written manual in the rooms explaining how to use the air conditioning unit would be helpful.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and most spoke excellent English. The hotel itself was quite charming, located in a old, traditional Bejing street. A pleasant stay, highly reccomend.
