Excellent room. Big, quiet and clean.
Very unfriendly staff in general.
The location was close to some of the places we planned to see.
Despite being one of the cheaper hotels in Qingdao, it is not worth the money you have to pay for it. We went from Eagle Canyon to a 5 star hotel in Suzhou that was half the price of Eagle Canyon. It may be one of the cheaper options in Qingdao but it might be worth paying a little bit extra if you appreciate creature comforts. In our room there were 2 broken power points, one by the bed so we couldn't read at night as the bedside lamp didn't work and the was no light above the bed. Staff speaks very little English, which for us was a significant problem as we had a few issues which we wanted help with and we couldn't communicate. We didn't really have this problem anywhere else. The area is very crowded and you can clearly hear the road from you room. The window wouldn't close properly which added to the problem. Wifi wasn't already set up, we had to go down to the front desk and ask for them to set it up. Bathroom door didn’t close properly. The bathroom in general was just frustrating. It is small and everything gets soaked when you take a shower (made the floor quite slippery) The room itself was dirty, old and ugly (pealing wall paper, cracks and rust). I put my bag on the floor and when I picked it up again, it was covered in dust.
the price was passable. provided breakfast. allowed 3 people in a two-bed room. The male receptionist (Pang) who checked us in spoke however he could in English with us and he was helpful in other areas as well like trying to help me with the internet issue. And he seemed patient and friendly. Amenities in room were standard and efficient. Even had bathrobes. Shower was strong and hot water came easily.
hallway carpet is not well maintained or cleaned. public restrooms are Chinese squat style, dim, smelled of cigarettes as well as other bad smell
Good size room and had been recently renovated. Bathroom was excellent. I have always stayed there because it is convenient to the seaside, shopping in the old part of town and a reasonable taxi ride to the new modern area near the sailing centre.
I have stayed at the Eagle Canyon many times. The breakfast on the top floor was always excellent. Now, in the basement it is terrible. Not enough tables or chairs, no-one supervising. Food should be placed around a larger area to stop congestion. At least one or two western type things would be good (bacon, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, tea). These are all standard in most Chinese hotels now.
It is value for money.
Disturbance by call girls who telephones the room and knocking at the door most of the time.
Location and friendliness
Construction work outside front-new subway
The hotel rates are better. Centrally located.
It was horrible that hardly anyone speaks in English. This is a better hotel for the inland travelers, and not for foreigners. Other problem is the main disturbance by females, over the room telephone and tapping at doors. It seems that there exist an organized group with in the hotel, who are contributing to this sordid affair.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The view from our eleventh floor hotel room was okay. The hotel is located next to the Qingdao Railway Station which was convenient. There are a number of restaurants both western (McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut) and local only a few footsteps away. Located next to the hotel is a convenience store that stocks everything your minibar offers, but at half the price. We were in Qingdao a week and only used a taxi once. There's a lot of Qingdao to see and getting lost on foot is the only way to discover what you never knew you were looking for. (Also, the Qingdao Metro subway is currently in early construction, but when complete it'll be a great way to get around the city! The subway station is located across the street from Eagle Canyon.)
When we arrived in our hotel room the bathroom smelled strongly of urine. The room we booked was advertised as "soundproof;" it wasn'T. The carpet inside the room was stained and desperately needed to be replaced. Our kingsize mattress was firm to the point of being uncomfortable. The coffee shop and bar on the 12th floor were closed without explanation. The food in the restaurant on the first floor was bland. The breakfast buffet in the morning was horrible. (I've lived in China for two years and genuinely love the people and culture. I think the Eagle Canyon Hotel has a LOT of potential to be a top hotel in Qingdao, but it feels like they're not even trying.)
